(Long bio)
I started out a skinny kid, then when I was 13, I reached my full height of six feet. Stopped growing upwards and started growing outwards. By the time I graduated high school, I weighed about 180. (I would kill to weigh that now!) End of college, about 230. Stayed near that for about 5 years, then I sprained both ankles and that just started a spiral of bad eating and little or no exercise. I had ongoing problems with my ankles and knees.
In April 2005 I bought Power 90. Tried it for a couple of weeks, then quit. I finally got custom orthotics which really helped my ankles and knees. In January 2006 I started Power 90. I weighed about 350 pounds. I did all 90 days, never missed. Toward the end I was even doing one or two P90X strength workouts and CardioX.
When I started in January, I could only kick as high as your ankles. My hip flexors ached every time I did the kicks. But I always did one or two more on the right side, which was my weakest side. I kept pushing and got stronger and my ankles and knees and hips got strengthened. By the end, I could easily kick as high as my waist. The rest of that year I worked out off and on, did some bike riding in the summer.
By January 2007, I had developed shoulder bursitis in my left shoulder. It hurt, and I had very little use of it. I could not raise my arm straight out from the side or raise my elbow above my shoulder. Still I decided it was time to try P90X Lean. I was still about 330 pounds. I made it through six weeks till I hurt my knee and had to stop. In those six weeks though, I only missed one workout (Shoulders and Arms), and while my shoulder didn't get any better, I did. My ankles got stronger, my balance greatly improved. My whole body got more muscular and tighter. My cardiovascular endurance was much, much better than it had been.
I had a very obvious demonstration of this. Before Power 90, I had gone to Multnomah Falls, near where I live in Oregon. There is a small bridge over the middle of the falls. The walk up there is a little bit steep, but not too long. The first time there, I couldn't go more than 8-10 steps without having to stop to catch my breath. After P90X, I went back. Did that same climb, no stops, moving steadily up, breathing fairly easily. My next goal is to walk the much steeper path to the very top of the falls.
Since February 2007, when I stopped P90X, I have worked out only very intermittently. I am tired of being obese, and not being to able to do what I want to do. I am going to eat right and workout regularly, and find out exactly what Beachbody programs can do for me!
