I have lived in Keizer Oregon for most of my life, and I really enjoy the area. Fitness used to come easy for me. In my youth, I was actually underweight and gaining weight was actually a challenge... what a problem, huh? My first experience with physical conditioning came as a rude awakening (literally) as I entered the Marines shortly after completing high school. Call me sick in the head, but I really enjoyed the physical challenges over the years. Unfortunately, like many others, once I exited the Marines and entered the civilian life, I lost all motivation to continue with my physical conditioning. At least not in the same way. All running and cardio was tossed aside as I made the decision that it was time for me to get lean and mean! I joined a small community gym where I pumped iron in the midst of several intimidating bodybuilders. I remember my first day walking in the gym at 145 pounds, skinny as a rail and looking at all the other people who had muscles on top of their muscles. I felt 10 inches tall. I quickly discovered that these same people I found intimidating to the point of deterring me from going to the gym, were actually extremely supportive and more than willing to assist me with my workouts and advice on how to get the results I was seeking. The support network I had developed was invaluable to me, and before long they were all family. At some point, I can't put my finger on exactly when, I lost my way. I quit going to the gym, I let my membership lapse, and the foundation of my diet became fatty foods in massive portions. Pizza, chips, burgers with gobs of greasy cheese and bacon, and several other foods smothered with sin. I soon found myself in unfamiliar territory as I made the discovery that my metabolism no longer was allowing me to indulge in this lifestyle without consequence. I noticed my waistline gradually expand, and the scale nudge its way up pound by pound. My motivation to join Team Beachbody came from a number of areas. After being a stay at home dad for 18 months, my activity became very limited. My energy levels dropped, I had gotten soft in the middle, and my waist line had expanded significantly. My life insurance premiums were at non-preferred rates due to my height / weight ratios and my body measurements. Even many of my clothes were literally busting at the seams. It became very clear to me I needed to make a change before it's too late! My first option was to join a gym, what a racket! Although, after just a few phone calls, it was easy to see that the initiation fees and application fees, in addition to monthly dues, that this was going to become very costly in a painful way, bringing new meaning to "No Pain, No Gain." In addition, I needed child care for my workout times. Many gyms provide child care during specified hours, and of course, at an additional cost. In many cases, this nearly doubled my monthly membership due's. As far as diet, I knew this is where the most drastic changes needed to take place. I believe eating right and managing your diet, but fad diets are out of the question. I have always believed there is no substitute for a balanced diet and exercise when it comes to fitness, one with out the other just won't get the desired results. The big challenge seemed to be finding an affordable resource to take care of my exercise needs. Somewhere the back of my mind, I remembered a conversation I had with a good friend well over a year ago who had obtained results from a great program. He lost weight, felt great, and was very enthusiastic about the program. Out of curiosity, I made a phone call to see if he was still an enthusiast after all this time. Much to my surprise, he was still very active with the fitness program, his life had been changed, he became a Team Beachbody Coach and dedicated himself to helping others change their lives. The excitement and enthusiasm he had during our conversation completely out-shined any sales pitch I had received from the membership consultants I had spoken to at the local gyms. This was genuine, and I had to have it for myself! I found the premise could not be more fundamental, eat right and exercise! 30 minute workouts in my own home are easy to fit into my schedule, and take less time than it would to get my 3 year old daughter ready and drive to the gym. Now, several months later, I have completed my 90 day challenged issued to me by my coach and am a P90 Graduate, I can honestly say it is everything he said it would be. I am a skeptic by nature, and really did not believe I would accomplish half of what I achieved in my first 90 days. but I also committed to give it everything I could. Today I am a true believer and a walking success story about how Beachbody changed my life for the better, and encourage everyone to make the same commitment. Please feel free to check in on me, or send me an e-mail. Whether you have just recently made the decision to join the Beachbody team, or have been a long time member, I love hearing your stories for a little extra inspiration! Like many others, the first transformation took place in my head. I remember the day as I was getting ready to join some friends for a night out with my bride, and as I went through my wardrobe, I had quite a challenge finding something to wear. I suddenly felt embarrassed and ashamed and was no longer in the mood to go out. It was at that moment I realized just how drastically my inactive lifestyle had become, and I was only going to get worse unless I took control. I made a promise to my wife that I would turn myself around, I owed her the best "me" that I can give her, as well as my daughters, and especially to myself! The following days, I was on the phone with about every gym and fitness center in town trying to find the best deal for me, but the initiation fees and monthly dues they required were less than inspiring. In many cases, the child care expenses they charged in addition all the other costs, doubled the monthly dues. Then, I recalled a conversation I had with a good friend of mine several months earlier. At the time he had recently started an in-home fitness program and was very enthusiastic about the program. I remember he told me to check into it for myself, but at the time my arrogance and denial took offense that he would suggest I need to check into a fitness program. Now, however, there was no denying the obvious, so I figured I would give him a call to see if he was still as enthusiastic about the program after all these months had passed. Much to my surprise, he was still very involved with the Beachboty fitness programs, and after sharing with me his success, he issued me a 90 day challenge. In his words "It will change your life, and at the very least, you'll look and feel better!" I was quick to sign up, and order a variety of fitness programs, supplements, and accessories. I loaded up with Slimming Formula, Multi-Vitamins, Meal Replacement Shakes, and kicked off the whole thing with a 2-Day Fast. Day 1: The day the "Big Box o Stuff" showed up on my doorstep, it was like Christmas! I had videos, resistance bands, and supplements all over my living room. My plan was to work the Power 90 system first, and ease my way into the P90 X after a couple weeks. After my first work out on Phase 1-2 of the Sculpt/Circuit, the reality that I had over-estimated my abilities and under estimated the workout programs made me reassess my game plan. I had determined P90X would probably come in to play much later than I and anticipated. I had no idea that a 30 minute video would work me to the point of exhaustion, and this was only phase 1-2. I then decided it would be a good idea to read the Program Guide to enable me to maximize my efforts, and went along with the suggested work out segments. For the first 6 days, I went with the Power 90 Fat Burning Express. What a great workout! The first day, I was completely exhausted, and wasn't able to do all the exercises. Amazingly, in just 6 days, I had improved my conditioning enough where I was able to efficiently complete the work out, not just survive the 30 minutes. This quickly became a personal favorite work out, and I still use it as one of my regular cardio days. I was then ready to move into the sweat and sculpt segments of the Power 90, and after a few weeks, I stepped up to phase 3-4. I found the workouts to be efficient and enjoyable. When I sat down and compared to what I would have with a fitness center, I had my workouts complete in the time it would take me to drive to the gym, and with this, my girls can work out with me rather than turn them over to child care. I have little one pound dumbbells for my 3 year old, and it's pretty cute to watch her do her own interpretations of the exercises. As day 30 rolled around, I was feeling great! I didn't have much weight loss to document as of yet, maybe a couple pounds, but the physical gains were very present and this excited me! I was initially concerned that many of the aches and pains that have tormented me through the years would hinder my workouts, but as it turned out, my knee pains, lower back pains, and shoulder pains all had subsided. That's something that can't be measured by the number on the scale or on a tape. At about day 45, I changed up my work outs from the Program Guide, and went almost exclusively cardio based workouts. To challenge myself even more, I ordered the Power 90 Master Series. Wow! What a blast I had with the new segments. Tony was very entertaining, the workouts were a blast, and really had me working up a sweat. Shortly after, the pounds and inches started melting away, people began to take notice of the positive changes, and I felt better than I have in years! Oh yeah, and my clothes fit me again. I was hooked! As I moved in towards the end of my 90 days, I began to put more focus on my diet. The meal planners helped me out a lot. I was able to get plenty of ideas with out the extra calories and fat. Before long, I had the whole package working for me, diet AND exercise. Closing out my 90 day challenge, I was amazed with my results. The goals I had initially set, I was thinking long term, and didn't expect to be anywhere close in just 90 days, but this program completely exceeded any of my expectations. I actually hit my target weight, and documented 30 pounds lost! I feel incredible, I catch my wife checking me out every now and again as well. She has been my biggest fan though all of this. I appreciate the support she had given me though all of this. She used to show off pictures of what I looked like before we met, and now she shows everyone my before and after photos instead. It's embarrassing at times, but it feels great to know shes proud of me. I'd take that over the Million Dollar Body prize any day of the week! I may have completed my 90 day challenge, but my transformation is far from over. I am working on shedding another 10 pounds and a few inches here and there, and I plan on kicking off P90X for the new year. Until then, I am working on maintaining my diet and conditioning, and enjoying my newly discovered active lifestyle and sharing my experience with all my friends, and anyone else who cares to listen. Just as my good friend told me in the beginning, it has changed my life. I am able to enjoy an active lifestyle again, and do the things I enjoy most, hiking, biking, and I have been able to enjoy the greatest summer of my life with my girls, and thanks to my good friend and coach, as well as the Team Beachbody, I know I have many more adventures in my future! Please feel free to check in on me, send me an e-mail. I really enjoy all the stories of the Beachbody members for a little extra inspiration, and I hope my story inspires you as well. | Please sign in to flag this as inappropriate.
