Fresno, CA I am 29 and I was fat. Plain and simple. I allowed my will power to be overrun by a five-dollar Carl’s Jr. hamburger. I was aware of how I ate and how little I spent at the gym, but when it came down to it, eating junk was convenient… working out was not. I had been an athlete all through my educational career, even challenging myself to play in All-Star football games. My mentality back then I am 29 and I was fat. My mentality back then was workout hard, get stronger, faster, better. Then I did what everyone hopes to do, I graduated. My road was supposed to be paved with wonderful opportunities and fruitful employment. After a few lower level computer- engineering jobs, I became employed for a good company as a network engineer. Great pay, high responsibility, which challenged me mentally, and hundreds of hours at a desk, slumped over concentrating on a small screen. My life therefore was less active and my physical state became stagnant and began to regress. I began having chest pains, back pains, and threats of hereditary diabetes. My future was becoming written in stone and I had not even reached my 30’s. Pushing almost 400 pounds at age 27, I heard about a program starting at my work called Power 90. At first, it was about winning the money but now that I am 50+ pounds lifter and feeling better than I did in college, it is about my journey. This program has not only retrained my body, it has retrained my head and the way I view life. I no longer have the cravings for Carl’s Jr. or for soda because I know that I love the way I feel now. My goal is not to reach a specific weight number, but to be able to walk outside without my shirt on with confidence, and to be able to control my body, for it has too long been out of control. My head and my heart are 100% focused on achieving and maintaining my goal for life, to live better and to be happy.

I started my journey to fitness with Power 90. Soon I required more of a challenge and took on P90 Master Series. Within only a month it was time for P90X. What a workout. I started off being able to do 1 pull-up to now being able to crank a few out. After doing P90X twice I am currently starting P90X+. I thought P90X was tough. I started my workouts in the afternoons and early evenings until I talked to my coach who challenged me to do the workouts in the morning. Needless to say if you have to work at 8am you need to wake up a little early to workout, say 4am. At first it was difficult to get up that early to workout. Being a part of Beachbody it was easier because I knew that when I logged on I would see my coach online working out and if she didn’t see me there I would have to answer to her at work. The Fitness Challenge at work also helped me in the beginning. I consider myself a competitive person who steps up to challenges.
Changing my eating habits was not as difficult as I thought it was going to be. I was a fast food, Starbucks coffee fiend. I always ordered the large or extra large of everything because I thought, hey I am a big guy so I need a big meal. Now I shop at the grocery store and take my lunches to work. I calculated out what I used to spend on fast food, coffee and other just food comes out to over $6,000.00 a year. This program tells you to have 5 – 6 small meals a day. I always, like many, thought that you had to eat less to lose weight when the truth is that all you need to do is eat more small meals throughout the day to keep your metabolism burning to lose weight.
Now I not only continue to workout and push hard for myself but also for my sister. She has joined Team Beachbody and is starting P90X herself. She started with Power 90 just like I did. She also did Hip Hop Abs. Next she went to P90 Master Series before starting P90X. I am so proud of her. My mom is also trying some of the Team Beachbody workouts. At 58 years old she invites me over so my sister, her and I can do P90X Kinpo X. Personally I have come a long way not only physically but mentally as well. I have learned a lot about nutrition and my body. It wasn’t until now that I realize how much miss information is forced on society regarding fitness and nutrition.
If I can inspire one person to make a change I have accomplished something I never thought I could.
Keep It Simple – You have enough in your life to worry about already
Make gradual changes – It took time to get where you are and it will take time to get where you want to be
Have Fun – If you can’t have fun then what is the point of living.
Thank you Team Beachbody.
