I work in Acute Care (Emergency/Urgent Medicine). My normal hours are 8am-8pm Tues, Wed, Thurs, although I will often pick up overtime shifts that are usually 9-9 on weekends. I am a baseball nut as well as a musician (drummer). In the Spring of 2005 I did the Power90 program after reaching my highest known weight of 245, with a waist of 42". (I am 6-2). My pre-college weight was 180 (1995) with a 32" waist. The details as to why this happened are typical and uninteresting. Anyway, by the end of the Power90 I was down to 204 with a 36" waist (at least that is what jean size I bought - never did do an official measurement). However, admittedly, I spent much more time on the cardio element vs the sculpting part (I have no muscles and never have). But then all heck broke loose again. Our home suffered flood damage just as we were putting the finishing touches on our newly finished basement. We lost everything, and since we had done all of the work ourselves from money we had received from refinancing our home, I was forced to work an immense amount of hours and redo the basement again, all this while preparing for the birth of our daughter. The next thing I knew it was Nov. 2007 and I was back up to 234. Between Nov 1, 2007 and Oct of 2008 I was very good about following a 40/30/30 diet and eating 5x/day (and following all of the other basic rules of any good nutrition plan), yet only exercising maybe once per week. As of 10/21/08 I was 194 with a 37.5" waist (officially measured this time - although I am comfortably wearing at 34" pant). This proves just how important the diet (nutrition) is any weight loss program! I had known about P90x for about 3 years and had been waiting for a time in my life where I would find it possible to commit and feasible to succeed. I purchased it and set a date of Oct. 24th, 2008. Through countless hours of reading the message boards and doing research, I decided to take some supplements, something I had never done before. I used the P90X Recovery mix. Aside from Whey powder throughout, I took Creatine during phase 2 of the program with definite results. I also added Glutamine to my recovery shakes on resistance days to minimize the muscle soreness and speed up the recovery time. Although I wavered on NOXplode and originally decided to hold off on trying it, I changed my mind and also noticed more intense energy during strength days. I continued my daily Centrum Men's Formula MV, Omega-3 fish oil, Vit E, and Vit C, and B-complex. I use MyFitnessPal.com for logging my nutrition and to track calories. I think the message boards are fantastic ways to find motivation. I have thoroughly enjoyed following the progress of numerous individuals over the course of my journey. The photos are inspirational. I started a second round on March 5, 2009 after a 5 week layoff. It is a hybrid program that I designed called P111X2. It consists of three 37 day phases. Each phase has two 15-day blocks in it and each block consists of three 5-day repeating exercise schedules. After 30 days there is a 7 day recovery week that follows. Rather than the YogaX, 3 times per month, I incorporate Bikram "hot" Yoga at a local facility. The first 2 phases focuses strictly on upper body, and the final phase shifts to the lower body, but also starts to include running, a 5K and 10K road race series, and then some half-marathons. However, In mid May of 2009 I was forced to abandon P111X2 after about 6 weeks due to immense financial pressure on my household. Since that has stablized, I have decided to get on a "leaning" mostly cardio program which will only encorporate 1-2 P90X DVD's per week, YogaX plus an upper body strength workout (either Chest/Back, Chest/Shoulders/Arms, Back&Bi's, or Upper Body Massacre). I have mapped out a 14 week half marathon training program which I started August 3rd, as well as a diet plan to accompany it. I will be running the Seacoast Half Marathon in Portsmouth, NH on 11/8/2009. Then I will start training for the Country Music Marathon on 4/24/2010 in Nashville. | Please sign in to flag this as inappropriate.
