I have struggled with weight and poor eating since early childhood. I ate a lot and have loved the starches and sweets. I began to exercise after I got married. This fabulous husband of mine married me when I carried a good 25 extra pounds on my 5'5" frame and apple shape. A couple of years into our marriage I joined a gym and found Nirvana - I lost weight and felt much better by all accounts; but I remained soft and still carried too much fat on my belly. I was a "regular" at gym (3 to 4x/week) The Elliptical Machine was my machine of choice and the only time I strength train was when the machines were available....hardly ever! Skip ahead to 8 years and I have my first son. I was miserable due to the changes in my body and feared that I would not lose the weight. I manage to get rid of most of the 30lbs I gained but continued to struggle with abdominal fat and being way soft . Since I am an apple shape I carry my fat on my upper body, which was distributed around my belly, back, boobs and arms. I guess I hid it pretty well because people always said I was fine and that I did not need to lose weight. Unfortunately I knew better but somehow these statements contributed to my self-sabotage as I continued to convince myself that perhaps they were right. However, once I stood naked in front of the mirror the reality could not be ignored; and I was miserable. The second child came and I was more careful with the weight gain (I gained 28 not 30lbs, LOL!) but now I had less time in my schedule to exercise. A couple of years ago, I learned that I had high cholesterol and was pre-diabetic. I panicked and the reality of "life" hit me like a ton of bricks! Coincidentally, I was introduced to the South Beach Diet and this began my education on the role of carbs, proteins, fats, etc. ..and my weight dropped from 139 to 129. Then it crept back up to 132. I continued to educate myself on nutrition and the role of proper exercise, especially strength training. Prior to this, I could not understand why I would plateau. Well, not only was I not challenging myself on that darn elliptical machine, but I was a gym visitor that still ate poorly. So, here I was, at 130, feeling okay, but SOFT and flabby. I returned to a consistent work out on August 2010 but I was just practicing the ineffective exercise regimen that I've done since I was 24. My brother learned that I was interested in P90X and he bought it for me (lovely man)! I initially stuck with the program because I felt an obligation to him and the investment he made; and thought "..you'll get through this and return to WiiFit". (LOL)! Since then, I completed a round of P90X lean, Insanity, a hybrid or Insanity/P90X/BBL, Asylum and I am now giving Insanity a 2nd round and I am approaching the 3rd month of Les Mills Pump. I've come a long way. The belly has more definition and I have obliques! There's lean muscle on my body and my strength is like never before...I can actually do pushups and situ ups now!
I have dropped to 125lbs, size 2 and I am finally getting out of the pre-diabetic range! The internal tansformation has been the most poignant. I am confident, self-assured and truly appreciate the image in the mirror, from the inside out!
Join me on my journey to good health and the ultimate personal satisfaction - proud body, heart, and mind!
