It was December 2009. I was turning 30 and was at a family gathering to celebrate the occasion. They made me wear a “Super Old Man Cape” along with a cane. Haha! I was slightly amused. It wasn’t until More ...
It was December 2009. I was turning 30 and was at a family gathering to celebrate the occasion. They made me wear a “Super Old Man Cape” along with a cane. Haha! I was slightly amused. It wasn’t until a few months later that I finally saw the pictures from that day. WOW!! I knew that I gained some weight over the last few years, but who was this person I was looking at! That is when I realized that I SHOULD have been wearing that “Super Old Man Cape” because of what I had obviously been doing to myself. I had to be speeding up the aging process (especially on the inside) from all the crap I was eating every day! I was getting old quick!! The more I thought about it the more I realized that I had to do something, but what?

I started out by just trying to count the calories that I was eating (without a real game plan of what those calories consisted of) and taking the dog for an extra walk or two every day. I did this for a couple of months and lost a few pounds here and there, but nothing significant. Therefore, my motivation decreased until I was right back to where I had started; so much for that.

It was now January 2011. I hadn’t accomplished anything positive during the last year for my health. So I decided to try something drastic and order that P90X program that I had heard a few people talk about. Before I started I weighed myself, 270lbs! This was going to be a rough journey. That first day I didn’t make it through the warm-ups without having to take a break and only finished half the workout before I had to stop. The next day I got through the entire workout (although with many, many breaks). I really enjoyed the way P90X was set up and actually had fun working out every day! I still wasn’t too concerned about my diet though. I mean I tried to eat healthier choices and limit my sugar and fat intake, but I certainly didn’t follow the nutrition guide. Hey, I was seeing results! I lost 30lbs that first 90 days! Then I did it again and lost another 15lbs! Still not REALLY making sure my diet was where it should have been though. I was almost done with another 90 days and almost another 15lbs down when a personal problem came up. I pretty much instantly quit working out and returned to my HORRIBLE eating habits. During the last 3 months of 2011 I gained back over 50 of the 60lbs I had lost. I was disgusted with myself; all that hard work and nothing to show for it.

January 2012 was when I decided that enough was enough. I was going to fully dedicate myself to my health; working out AND nutrition. I ordered Insanity for a change of pace and followed a strict nutrition plan which included Shakeology. WOW!!! Just after the 60 days of Insanity and eating right with the help of Shakeology, I felt better than I had in a long, long time. Then I did another round of P90X, a round of an Insanity/P90X hybrid, a round of P90X WITH my wife, P90X2 WITH my wife, and Insanity WITH my wife! I am now down over 100lbs! I have never felt as good physically as I do right now. I finally realized that you need exercise, nutrition, and support to really make a lifestyle change like that. You can’t out exercise a bad diet. So thank-you to my wife, family, friends, P90X, P90X2, Insanity, Beachbody, Tony Horton, Shaun T, and everybody else that has helped along the way!! But wait, I’m not done yet…I may be down over 100lbs, but I want to be in even better shape. So I will continue to workout and eat right. So watch for more updates! Being healthy is a lifelong journey, not just a 90 day or yearlong one…
