Negaunee, MI My journey to health and fitness started on April 15, 2004. Tax day - so I will always remember it! Until that time, I never worked out and I ate whatever I wanted. If one serving of something was good, then two was better! This was all well and good, except for the fact that I was a full grown adult and still had to buy a bigger size pants every year. This was all well and good, except for the fact that I was a full grown adult and still had to buy a bigger size pants every year. And so on April 15, 2004 when I put on my "big comfy" jeans and they were too big, I decided that something had to be done.
I started small and made changes to my portion sizes and started walking. Through the course of several years, I learned a lot about fitness and nutrition. It was a process that took time. It was two years before I even attempted jogging, and another year or two after that before I lifted a single weight.
Unfortunately, I ran into some problems as things started to progress. I started with a pretty casual food journal, which evolved over time to counting every tiny calorie. I started weighing myself every day, and my whole day could be made or ruined by that number on the scale. Eventually, I developed a binge eating problem due to the restrictive rules I tried to live by in order to be the "perfect" weight.
It has taken a lot of time and work to realize that there is no such thing as "perfect". I believe that physical exercise and nutrition are two of the best things we can do for our health, but there must be balance. I think that restrictive dieting and compulsive exercising are a bigger problem in this country than we can even imagine.
My goals now are to be physically fit and healthy, to love and appreciate myself as I am, and to forgive myself when I mess it all up! I also want to help other people struggling with these same issues to have a support system. Let's bond together to be fit, healthy, and confident!!
