My name is Sean Guzman, I live in Jacksonville Florida and am 23 years of age. At the age of 16 I was diagnosed with diabetes and began to take one small pill a day to keep in under control. I was not overweight in any way shape or form and it was presumed hereditary. At first being at that age I did not think much of it, oh how wrong was I!

Over time it continually got worse and worse and I eventually (and disappointingly) had to take insulin. Though it seemed I still did not learn. I continued to not watch my carbs as I should and had to be given more insulin than I ever thought being so young. My insulin shot count in the beginning of 2006 was 45-50 units!

Over time due to the increased cravings that insulin can set off I was compelled to eat more and got flabby from lack of exercise and bad choices. Though in February 2007 my life took a turn for the better. I got injured... severely! Now some may wonder: How is that better? Simple, while it hurt more things than just my health it helped me make a better decision... TO CHANGE MY LIFE AROUND!

It took me a period of 2 months to get out of bed and 7 to recover! I slowly over that period ate better and watched my insulin closer. The most important thing though was my decision to turn closer to God and I even found my ability and passion in writing. I have been slowly molded ever since and continue to learn and grow!
