Well, it's been about two decades since I was in decent shape and I think it's long overdue to change that. I've steadily seen my weight increase from the 220's up to where I was at after the holidays (265). And now that I'm 10 days into the P90X Lean program, I know I have what it takes to get this done!!

Well, it's been about two decades since I was in decent shape and I think it's long overdue to change that. I've steadily seen my weight increase from the 220's up to where I was at after the holidays (265). And now that I'm 10 days into the P90X Lean program, I know I have what it takes to get this done!!
I was a pipsqueak in HS, but my late growth spurt (and a few years busing/waiting tables) provided me with a fantastic frame to work with. Thick, powerful legs and big, broad shoulders have forced me to answer the "Did you play football?" question (nope, never did) countless times over the years. So, I'm anxious to see what the Lean program produces! And I fully intend to go from Lean directly into Classic.
But to say I like my beer would be an understatement. In fact, I'm a self-proclaimed beer snob who seldom drinks anything but craft beer. Needless to say, my beer and poor eating habits have given me a sizable beer (though, partially genetic) gut to work off. And that will be my biggest challenge in going from 265 down to my goal of 225. Though, I'm off to a great start - I haven't had a beer since a few days before I started my workouts!
So, I've transformed a 6'x 8' area of my garage into my training area. With a set of Powerblocks, a 26" TV/DVD flat screen, a newly installed 3/4" pipe pull-up bar, two yoga blocks, and .5" EVA foam flooring, I'm all set to take on this challenge.
And I'm fairly encouraged so far. I'm in a weekly sand volleyball league and my new HR monitor tells me I'm burning nearly 1,000 calories each week! Clearly Vball has helped with my cardio, but I still knew I was out of shape. I had heard P90X was NOT easy and I figured I was going to struggle with the workouts. No question I have struggled (especially with Ab Ripper!), but I haven't struggled as badly as I expected. And THAT is a small victory in and of itself.
So, it's onward and upward! And if all goes to plan, I'll finally be able to take my shirt off at volleyball!
