I guess you could call me a former athlete. I played baseball for about ten years. Baseball became softball when beer became a priority in life. I guess you could call me a former athlete. I played baseball for about ten years. Baseball became softball when beer became a priority in life. Three years later, I got married, and officially retired from everything. Well, except beer. I remember shopping with my fiance at the time, and stepped on a cargo scale. It read 196 pounds. I said I'd never get over 200. For the next few years, that would prove accurate. I started losing weight at a fairly drastic pace soon after our second child was born. I got down to 165 pounds, but I looked sick. I was. I was diagnosed with islet cell carcinoma (rare form of pancreatic cancer). Various chemotherapy agents and a couple different proton pump inhibitors shrunk the tumors down, but not out. They are still with me, but idle. After all that, I was able to get my weight back. I did, and then some. Two years and about 60 pounds put me up to 225. I never thought I'd get to two spins, let alone two and a quarter. I've since hovered in the last five years in the 210 to 220 range. I can't tell exactly when the moment of clarity took place, but when it did, I needed to find a program and stick to it. P90X was the one. I started in March of 2010, with my baseline weight at 217. Six weeks later, I was down to 204 with energy to burn. I recently had to take a break, because of a procedure done to make sure I have no more little ball players, so day #1 is now Monday, May 3rd, 2010. I'm doing the lean program, because during the first go around, I reinjured a bad hip that I need to get scoped. I'm avoiding Plyometrics until then.
As far as background goes, I married to a marathon runner, and have two sons. I earned my Bachelor's from Michigan State, and my MBA from Indiana Tech (while on chemo - I'm proud of that). I coach both my boys baseball teams, and I'm a video game geek when I have the time, though baseball pretty much takes care of that. I enjoy golf, as well.
My place of employment was recently purchased, so I might be looking for work, but I'll worry about that when the time comes.
At the end of the day, the Spartans will kick your ass.
