Hello Everyone. IF NOT BY 55 – WHEN??
I’m 54, and married to my best friend, golf partner (she’s the one with a ‘hole-in-one’) and hero (she served in the Army – a chemical officer in Desert Storm). My level of fitness has always been cyclical, due in part to motivation and a torn up knee. Surgery for cartilage removal was 36 years ago sophomore year, high school football. I continued playing HS ball and 2 years of college, skiing, racquetball, heavy squats – all the activities to aggravate it further. Quality of life continued to spiral downward in my forties and early fifties, until I finally had complete knee replacement in February of 2007.
Returning from surgery, my weight ballooned to 214 #’s. At 5’7”, that’s just crazy! Rehab was tough (never had much flexibility to begin with), but with moderate stationary bike and elliptical stepper, I lost 30 pounds. I know some of that was muscle mass – and I was determined to get it back!
Watching a P90X infomercial – specifically March 8th, 2008 – I contemplated ordering the program. As I was cleaning out the hallway closet the next day – a box of DVD’s tumbled out. You guessed it – my wife had purchased P90X about a year earlier, and there it sat collecting dust. Talk about fate!! Now – I had no more excuses…with a bionic knee, and Tony Horton and the Beachbody buddies for motivation - workouts began on Monday, March 10th 2008, and I haven’t missed a day!
Sure – I “am currently having difficulty with” yoga and the stretching exercises – but I already see a difference.
I’VE DECIDED – I’M COMMITTED - & I AM SUCCEEDING!!
