I am a former Naval Aviator of 12 years, but have been separated from the service after I started two businesses for the last three. One thing I can say about military service is that the constant pressure to keep in shape works, since after I separated I found it personally difficult to exert the kind of motivation on my own that came with a scored rigorous Physical Readiness Test every six

Denial. It is not just a river in Egypt. This word pretty much described my viewpoint on my health and fitness before I started P90X. I'd always felt that the reason I felt I was so run down and why I would get injured easily when performing simple or minorly strenuous tasks was, well, just because I was getting old. Truth is I ate pretty much anything I wanted, never tried to incorporate any truly healthy choices into my diet, and would put bandaids on my climbing weight with short term weight loss focuses like Atkins and Weightwatchers, instead of just making the proper food choices and exercising regularly and with the appropriate intensity. Even when I was in the Navy, I would get on 'exercise kicks' where I would do some cardio and abs two to three times a week with huge breaks in between exercises. But as soon as things got busy (since it would take me 2 and a half hours to get to the gym workout and return), I would fall right back into the vicious cycle. Recently my cholesterol started climbing (which really shouldn't have been a surprise to me, considering Arby's routinely writes me asking me where I had disappeared to), and my father had a "minor" heart attack following in the footsteps of my grandfather before him. With two beautiful kids ages 4 and 2, I started having visions of my death and my kids getting married or graduating from college and tears coming from their eyes because they wished Dad could have been there. I was determined to break the cycle of my ancestry's heart trouble and Type II Diabetes, and that is when flipping through commercials one Sunday morning, my wife and I chanced upon the P90X commercial. Watching how hard the exercises were and the attitude in the DVD's, I thought this was a workout I could do with time efficiency and if the transformations were true, that I could stick to once I started seeing results. Within four weeks, with a bootcamp mentality devotion to the exercise and the nutrition, I had already lost 6 inches on my waist (the kind of fat that gives you high cholesterol and heart disease), and I was HOOKED!

I can honestly say to about 95% certainty, that I am now in the best shape of my life thanks to the X. I have been thinner, and I have been stronger, but never before have I been able to achieve the well rounded level of fitness that I currently enjoy. My flexibility, power, body fat %, muscle tone and endurance factors like resting and recovery heart rate are at historical levels for me. I thrive on the rigor of the workouts and track my caolric content daily with respect to saturated and trans fat intakes, as well as maintaining the correct macronutrient balance and timing. I have truly brought it, and no words can describe what the accomplishment means not only physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. I feel powerfully in charge of my own destiny. It's a good feeling. And the best part is knowing that it will only get better as I embark on my second cycle of the X!

For those of you who need a laugh injection into your P90X experience, I run a very tongue in cheek and entertaining Blog called Maan Meets X at maanmeetsX.blogspot.com. Come and read about my experinces in a light hearted way!
