I grew up most of my life in San Pedro, CA. I was very active in basketball, bodysurfing, bike riding, weight training…etc. I was always riding my beach cruiser to Redondo Beach with my friends. We would body surf and play football all day, go to the local buffet afterwards, and finish off the day with some pickup basketball games. I have been thin most of my life prior (165lbs) to joining the Navy. After two years in the Navy, I was able to add and maintain muscle weight (added 30lbs). It was not easy trying to eat above a high metabolism! Eight years into my Navy career, I developed arch issues and soon was not able to be as active as I once was. I should have adjusted my eating habits, but was always falling back on my high metabolism as a saving grace to get back into shape quickly. Slowly my weight increased to 248lbs; I was 53lbs heavier! A Navy buddy from Colorado offered me a job in 2000; the family and I have been here since. We love it here in Colorado Springs! Colorado Springs offers most of the big city amenities, no traffic (as compared to Los Angeles), 4 real seasons, and plenty of outdoor activities. I finally made a serious decision to be dedicated in getting fit. I hope to use my transformation story to inspire others to get fit. Many people want to get fit, but do not always feel they can do it and are not comfortable going to a gym. I am a Million Dollar Body coach, who was a person that needed to get into shape for health’s sake. I will come with you on your journey to being fit! Like most men, I believed that I would never let myself get out of shape. Throughout high school up until I joined the Navy, I could not put on weight to save my life! In 1988-1990 my weight was 165lbs with a 32” waist. I was burning more than I was able to consume. I was drinking beer and liquor during the 90s along with eating whatever I wanted. I was very active in basketball, bodysurfing, bike riding, weight training, etc… My weight finally increased from 165lbs to 195lbs during 1990-1991; 30lbs muscle gain. I was eating 6 FULL meals a day and working out 2.5 to 3 hours per day. I also ran 2 miles a day and used steam room for 30 minutes. I maintained 195lbs from 1990-1997. Then life happened in late 1997. My arches started to fall after 8 years of wearing steel-toe boots in the Navy. I could not run anymore, weightlifting was limited, and I did not decrease food intake. Eventually my metabolism slowed down and I gradually gained weight from 1998 to 2006. I was in denial each year with the comment, “I can easily get back into shape in a couple of months with no problem!” My weight transformed from 195lbs (mostly muscle) to 248lbs (mostly fat). I gained 53lbs! Body Fat percentage taken by certified person at wellness/fitness center on base using calipers. I was getting tired of being big. I started Slim in 6 and lost weight during July-September 2004; dropped to 230lbs, but I did not maintain after summer ended. My pants were 38”, but spare tire belly was actually pushing 43” and was hanging over my pants. I was not consistent in maintaining exercise and ended up gaining the weight back. I was finally fed up with myself in late 2005. I easily got winded going up the stairs in my house. I held my breath just to bend over and tie my shoes. In October 2005, I used a slower approach with my next attempt to get fit by adjusting my eating habits using Michi’s Ladder. The weight loss was gradual and resulted in a loss from 248-232lbs (16lbs) from late 2005 to mid-January 2006. I was able to wear size 38” pants without being overly tight, but by spare tire belly was still about 40” A few office co-workers started a weight loss competition in January 2006. I decided to participate since I had already committed to myself to be serious about getting into shape. The office competition was for 6 months. I started Slim in 6 Beach Body program and maintained it from January-March 2006 and followed up with a weight training program combined with the Slim in 6 Burn It Up aerobic programs from April-June 2006. January-June 2006 resulted in weight loss of 232-219lbs (13lbs). I was able to fit nicely in size 36” pants. I increased my Ab routine and adjusted with less days of aerobic and increase weight training. July 2006 resulted in weight loss of 219-216lbs (3lbs). My 36” pants were getting loose, but not enough to move down a size. I felt confident and shaved my head bald for summer 2006. I maintained a consistent eating/workout schedule and drank plenty of water from July 2006 to February 2007 with a weight loss of 4 lbs (216-212lbs). I hit a plateau! I modified my supplements program, mixed a variety of foods in my diet, focused on intensity in my workouts, and started sitting on a stability ball at work. By end of March 2007, I dropped from 212-202lbs (10lbs). My 36” pants were very loose. I tried on a size 34”, but pants were snug, so my waist was probably about 35”. I continued to split weight training and aerobic (Slim in 6) workout evenly. I maintained an aerobic workout during off weight training days and weight training schedule of 2 days on, 1 day off. I strived daily to maintain eating every 2-3 hours from Michi’s tiers 1, 2, 3. I had some cheat days, but kept the portions small and drank a lot of water with meal to get full. I modified my workout routine again during late April 2007 to focus on my tightening my midsection. I used “Power Half Hour Ab Burner” in place of the “Slim in 6 Burn It Up” and had successful results in my rib cage area and Abs. I currently settled for 36” dress pants with 1”taken in for 35”waist. My butt and legs fit nicely with size 36” pants versus 34” pants. Since I left the Navy in 1999, I hardly drink beer or liquor, only on special occasions. I watched my portion size, maintained eating (snack portions) every few hours, drinking a lot of water, cut down drastically on greasy foods and desserts. I ensured that I have cheat days, but keep the portions reasonable with the occasional splurge. I always drink at lease 8oz of water before going to bed and always went to bed slightly hungry. I dress sharp and keep positive thoughts. | Please sign in to flag this as inappropriate.
