I am a 41 year old IT professional, husband, and father of two daughters. In my youth I was very active with organized sports and just about any outdoor activity in general. My sports of choice were soccer, baseball, basketball, raquetball, and tennis. I am a certified scuba diver and I've just always held a great love of nature and being outside; snorkeling, diving, dirt bike riding, paintball, fishing, hiking, camping…if it involved being outside and being active, count me in!
Fast forward…after getting my degree, entering the workforce, and starting a family, I fell into the same rut many others have surely found themsevles in. I began to slow down; trading time outside for time on the couch or behind the computer. I grew ever lazier and inactive as the years pressed on. My stamina, endurance and activity level kept decreasing while the size of my waistline kept increasing.
When I hit 40 I found myself staring in the mirror one morning wondering to myself "How did I ever let myself go like this?". I had somehow managed to transform from this highly active in-shape kid to this increadibly out of shape middle aged man that had difficulty walking up a flight of stairs without being out of breath at the top.
That's not who I want to be anymore and I decided it is time to make a change. So here I am! I want to recaputre some of that vigor from my youth and not feel utterly disgusted and ashamed and what I see in the mirror anymore. I have no delusion that this is going to be easy, but I am dedicated to “bring it” and stick to the program. I know it’s going to be worth it!
