NEE HOW! That’s Chinese for HELLO!
My name is Peter. I live in “always sunny” Huntington Beach, California, with an awesome, beautiful and supportive wife and two wonderful children ages 11 and 8. One month after my wedding, I gained 20 pounds of what they called “Happy Weight”. As an attempt to keep the happiness and lose the weight, I signed up to train and do a century ride, which is a 100 - mile bike ride. If everything in life always worked out as planned, my son would be born one week after the ride. Instead, God blessed us with a son who was born 7 weeks early and I never made it to the ride. Since then, I have always used family, lack of time and too much work as one of many excuses not to exercise again. And even though I haven’t gone to the gym for 10 years, I faithfully paid my annual dues.
Once the younger of two children became of school age, my wife and I made multiple attempts to hit the gym. Although we had the greatest intentions and eventually made it there, it never lasted for more than 2 days at a time, then it’s off another few months. Our excuse was we were self-employed and we were just too busy. It must have taken me over a year of looking at my potbelly and double chin to finally commit to going to the gym. Besides, my consistent blood pressure of 165/115 was really beginning to worry me.
Before marriage, I was an avid cyclist, mountain biker and weight lifter. I cycled 3 – 4 times a week, at least 2 hours a day. I know my way around a gym and I know how to get the best pump from each exercise. Since I started going to the gym 2 years ago, I’ve lost 10 pounds and gain some muscle mass. My blood pressure dropped to 135/98. I don’t take medication because I don’t like the side effects. Instead, I take nutritional supplements to support my heart, muscles, ligaments and joints. However, as a disclaimer, I’m not advising anyone to stop taking their medication without consulting their doctor first. I myself am a doctor of acupuncture and Oriental medicine. This is just the way I choose to take care of my body, drug-free. But even after all this, I’m having the hardest time getting rid of the flab around my mid-section. Spare tires belong in the car, not my body. I’ve never had the coveted Hollywood-cut 6 pack abs and chiseled body. What I’ve done so far has worked for strength but not for the tight physique that I could be really proud of at the beach.
That’s why I signed on to do the BeachBody program. It’s time to stop letting excuses run my life. Round is a shape, but it doesn’t have to describe my body! I am so looking forward to my 90 day transformation!
