I was lying in bed one Sunday morning and I came across an infomercial for P90X. The excited guy on the infomercial, Tony Horton, was touting this P90X "thing". I was immediately skeptical, but was wondering what this ripped-up dude was so pumped about. I wondered what kind of pill or machine Tony Horton was selling that would magically get the buyer "RIPPED" in 90 days. You see, I've lifted weights, worked out and attempted to maintain a healthy lifestyle for much of my life. My dad had me lifting those water weights when I was 7 years old and I've pretty much been working out or staying active ever since. That said, I've lifted weights only, or lifted weights and run, or lifted weights and did cardio, or.... well, I think you see where I'm going... With all that wishy-washiness came complacency, frustration, plateaus and lack of motivation. I felt like I was spinning my wheels fitness-wise and ultimately health-wise. My cholesterol was getting up there, acid reflux became part of my life, I drank too much, I ate too much bad food and I was gaining weight (which I didn't see coming off any time soon if I continued down this path). At 5'8", 210lbs and 20%+ bodyfat, I knew it was time to change. Still, even with that desire I didn't know what I could do without falling into that wishy-washy routine again. I knew I needed something to hold me accountable, provide a clear cut goal and give me GPS-like directions on how to get there. Back to Tony Horton. So, I stayed tuned-in to the infomercial, and he kept talking about "Muscle Confusion". This struck me because after reading all those muscle/fitness/running/biking magazines I understood the theory of muscle confusion and overcoming fitness plateaus. I knew then that P90X was something different, was real and was no get-RIPPED-quick-from-a-magic-pill-drink-or-diet. I saw that P90X was real work that utilized proven methods and techniques along with a proper diet - which everyone knows is what it takes. Coupled with a focused and intense commitment, I knew this was what I was looking for. The only thing that was questionable was faith in myself that I would follow this as prescribed. I decided to do it - right there as I was horizontal lying lazily in the bed - I reached for the phone and ordered P90X. (The words, "money back guarantee" kept running through my mind, I won't lie.) I told my wife of "our" new purchase. I asked her to consider going through the program with me - I had to convince her (delicately) that she would benefit from P90X as well. She's never been one to workout routinely, but she graciously made the commitment. The DVDs, diet program and guide arrived... we were off and running (or P90X-ing). And after 80 days of following the program it would be a complete understatment to say we are BELIEVERS!! I've lost 20+ pounds during that time and am seeing some abs (which I've never seen before). My wife has shed 16lbs and is in the best shape of her life! At first I was wondering if this would really work and if we would really have the discipline to keep going... I was also wondering if my wife could handle it, after all it was Power 90X(treme). Well, the rest is history... oh, and so is a combined 36 pounds! We're not quite done with the 90 days, but we are ecstatic with the results and even more excited about what the future of our fitness holds. We plan to continue to use the P90X routines, variations of the routines (such as the lean/doubles version) or even purchase another type of workout (ChaLean) to acheive and maintain our fitness objectives. Trust me - if we can do this - anyone can!!
