Niagara Falls, NY Now 66, I have moved every year for the last 10 years, have a daughter 36 and granddaughter 6. I'm in Georgia 2011 It is a bit further north. Miss the snow and rainy days of the north country where my heart is.
I was raised in the Niagara Falls area. I was a competitive swimmer in High School and college, then just did exercise classes at the Y when I could. Yoga etc Then in my 40-50s I Now 66, I have moved every year for the last 10 years, have a daughter 36 and granddaughter 6. I'm in Georgia 2011 It is a bit further north. I was raised in the Niagara Falls area. I was a competitive swimmer in High School and college, then just did exercise classes at the Y when I could. Yoga etc Then in my 40-50s I took up Contra Dancing & running. I ran 5 miles everyday and a 10K every weekend.. . I was running with world class runners in the Cape Cod Group but as I couldn't get the weight below 145 and speed down, I was the pace horse for the world class runners when they had injuries. That was nice because they gave me all their tips on how to approach hills and run a race. Hoping it would make me run a little faster.
I ran a half marathon and felt like I could finish a full marathon but it was snowing and not there was enough help/water along the way so I didn't chance it. I've been kicking myself ever since. Oh well next lifetime.
Then menopause hit me like a 2x4 put on 30 lbs w/ HRT, and haven't been able to loose it. Even with P90 and turbo and now Hip Hop but keep working at it. Then in 2008-9 I was put on a new medication that caused more weight gain. Now it seems that it is a never ending battle with the exercise just to keep in shape. If I slack off a week, it feels like I have lost a months worth of fitness. But I keep trying.

Put on 30 lbs thanks to HRT. After 50 the weight didn't want to come off and kept rising. I decided I had to do something and one Saturday in the winter of 2003, I sat down to eat lunch and turned on the TV there was a P90 infomercial. I decided to do it. Living in Boston using the commuter train I was walking 3 miles a day to & from work. I left for work one day and saw that the tapes had arrived, I thought I don't have time to do that, But that day I was laid off. So, to work off the stress of unemployment and job search I tackled the P90 tapes, and went on line found other women over 50 who were doing P90.
I couldn't do 1 push up, I had start out standing and pushing off a door then moved to the floor, at the end of 90 days I was just beginning to push off from my toes. The support group kept going, We've been together for 3 years I'm still struggling with the weight, but staying in shape. Life intervenes. I only lost 5 lbs in the first 90 and then 5 in the intervening years. no at age 60 I have taken off 22 But I did gain some too.
The real treat is I can still do push my ups. I ordered the master tapes, for a change in routine and then Turbo Jam for my next birthday because so many people on Wowy were using them, I love Turbo Jam tapes because I love the music and I can really work up a sweat, but find I still need to keep up w/ P90 for the push ups etc. So I mix them up. The next birthday my treat was Hip Hop Abs, my nephews think it is crazy that I can dance hip hop moves. I love it. It makes me a sexy grandma. (Maybe Silly) I have moved from Boston to Delaware, Maryland, Florida,Georgia in these years, and still have the same support group. It is nice to have the support, I am now looking at another move up North somewhere and I love wowy seeing the same people every day. With the medication, the diet doesn't seem to work. But I am in shape. Now I will be 65 next month and plan on keeping up with the rest of the gang as long as I can.
With all the moves it is nice to have the support and a common goal, good health and others struggling with the same things. Sharing our lives together. Daily. Bette convinced me to work out with her in the AM, I love working up a sweat in the AM, It is much better than sitting through hot flashes in the AM. I feel great, and am proud of my fitness level and am the envy of many friends my age. No baggy underarms. One friend looked at me funny who I hadn't seen in years and said "Do you lift weights?" I was shocked and started to say "no", when I realized I really do with Tony a couple of days a week and said "Yes I guess I do." then she said I thought so and showed me her saggy underarms.
This year, 67th year, I suddenly gained 15 lbs in 3 weeks. Checking the internet, 'bellyfat' I found that can be a result low estrogen. And I was trying to wean myself off of estrogen creams.. Needless to say I went back on them managed to loose 5 lbs. 9/22/11 I am beginning Shakeology and hope that it can help me loose this extra weight. I must also admit that one problem I had was achy joints, when ordering Shakeology, I remembered Performance formula use to help with that, and I can report after 2 days that it is still true..I thought it was old age, but Performance Formula really works. Hope I am back on track again. And I can still do my push ups. Of that I am proud, even if from my knees.
