I am 42 and have been exercising and involved with sports my entire life. I am married with two young children (7 and 5), have a very demanding job and travel frequently. Staying in shape is not easy.
When I was younger, I worked out consistently. I focused on being as big and strong as possible. I could bench press nearly 400 lbs., had a 52 in chest, and weighed over 230 lbs. When I was younger, I worked out consistently. I focused on being as big and strong as possible. I could bench press nearly 400 lbs., had a 52 in chest, and weighed over 230 lbs. But, I was never truly fit. Running around the block would wind me, I could not touch my toes and I thought yoga was something for wimps. This led to several nagging injuries over the years including a torn chest, bone spurs on my shoulders, a ruptured knee, a chronically sore back, and severe tendonitis in my elbows.
I started the P90x program in March, 2007 and it has completely changed me. It has not only transformed my body by reducing fat, improving my flexibility, balance and cardio. But, I have discovered a harmony between my mind and body. I am now truly fit. I can easily run several miles, I am flexible, and have lost over 50 lbs. At 42, I am in the best shape of my life.
I have followed the basic P90x framework over the last 3 years and have stayed within 4-5 pounds of my peak weight loss. I have maintained my flexibility, stamina, and feel great. However, it is time to kick my fitness level up another notch. Now I want to push my body to its ultimate limits by being shredded, building more muscle, and still increasing my flexibility and balance. I just started the P90x plus series with the firm commitment to take my body to its highest level of fitness possible!

My introduction to P90 X started late in Feb while on a ski trip with my wife. After a few hours of skiing, my knees were aching and I was beginning to fall all over the mountain. Exhausted and feeling rather defeated, I went back to the lodge and began to doze off , when a P90x add came on TV. I instantly noticed Tony’s energy and excitement and was amazed by the transformation people underwent in only 90 days! However, the thought of yoga, kick boxing, stretching and plyo something or another, caught me off guard. I am a weekend warrior (football, softball, etc.) who has been adamantly lifting weights and exercising for over 20 years. At one point in time I weighed as much as 235 lbs. and benched press nearly 400 lbs. But, I was never really healthy or fit. All the years of poor nutrition and overtraining left me with tons of injuries. I have endured a torn chest, arthroscopic surgery on my shoulder, chronic tendonitis in my knees and elbows, and a bulging disc in my lower back. I vividly recall the week before I started P90x . I had to carry my 2 year old son down the stairs sideways and could not pick him up out of the crib because my knees and back hurt so much. My workouts in the gym were beginning to be centered around machines and very light weights, because it was all my body could take. My blood pressure was high, my cholesterol was less than ideal and I had a double chin. I felt terrible.
It was time for a change. With the support of my family, I decided to fully commit to the P90x program. My wife recently conquered breast cancer. She endured several surgeries and 6 months of chemo while taking care of our children. The least I could do was eat better and change my exercise routing for 90 days. I had nothing to loose!
Well, I did it and my lifestyle has completely changed. I feel like a new person in just 90 days! I never thought the results I achieved were attainable. I completely overhauled my eating habits and went from a diet consisting of bread, sugar, fast food, and caffeine, to lean meat, salads, vegetables, raw nuts, yogurt and lots of water! The funny thing was, I was never hungry. As my pictures show, the change in my body was amazing. I lost 21 lbs. (from 211 to 192, nearly 5 inches in my waist, 13% body fat and 2 inches off my hips, while growing more muscle. All this was accomplished with a pair of dumbbells a chin up bar, a yoga mat, and inspiration from Tony and his team. But, the pictures only tell part of the story. I have transformed myself from the inside out. My blood pressure went from 144/88 to 110/80, my cholesterol was lowered by 60 points, my resting heart rate went from 80+ to 56 and my skin cleared up!
The first few weeks of the program were tough. I had difficulty with several exercises (wall squats, lunges, etc.) and really struggled with yoga and the core exercises. However, I persevered. As each day passed, I steadily lost weight, gained more energy and began to master many of the exercises. I still traveled, which made sticking to the program a challenge. But, I packed protein bars, meal replacement drinks, healthy snacks, exercise bands and my favorite P90x DVD’s! During the 90 days, I spent over 4 weeks away from home, including trips to Ireland, Hungry, Switzerland, and even Las Vegas. Yet I did not miss one workout and stuck with my diet.
Thanks to P90x and Beachbody, my lifestyle has completely changed. I now follow a healthy diet and have a fitness program that is based on flexibility and athleticism. My joint pain is completely gone and I just passed a psychical with flying colors. My personal goal is continue with this healthy lifestyle and be in the best shape of my life going into my 40’s. I can’t wait to hit the beach this summer with my new body! Thanks Beachbody and Tony!
