Being former military, a competitive athlete and once avid Martial
Artiest, I am use to being in extremely good shape. The year before my son was
born (2000) I was a model for LL BEAN, and I looked good!

Business troubles, a divorce and single parenting raised my stress levels and enlarged
my waste-line at the same time. In a few short years I went from a lean 205 pounds
at 14% body fat to over 270lbs and almost 40% BF.

As my son began to grow, he started asking me to teach and introduce him the activities I once loved to do. He started with hiking and swimming. Then he moved to karate and skiing. Although I did enjoy sharing my life’s passions with him, the activities always left me worn out and tired. I started to worry about my health, and the cold hard fact of mortality set in hard—I know I had to change my health habits, or I may not be around long enough to teach my son all he wants to learn from me.

Over the past two years I have been sharing many activities with my son: skiing, hiking, biking and kayaking. On my own time I’ve been scuba diving, and I even learned to snowboard and wake board. I managed to get myself down to between 240lbs and 250lbs, but could never get below that no matter what I did!

This winter, I went on an extreme low calorie diet and started riding my stationary bike or running an hour or so a day. I managed to get down to 235, before I crashed. The next week I was at 245 again!

I almost resigned myself to the silly myth that this new, fat body was it for me forever, until... Two weeks ago I found the P90X that I had purchased a year ago. It had gotten lost during a move.

I started the program and was instantly surprised with the workouts. It reminded me of being back in Special Ops Training. I was instantly hooked! The first two weeks were fun, exciting; bring enthusiasm back into my workout routines. But by week three, however, I was dragging and again doubting.

I thought of my son. “Hey, Dad, can you teach me to rock climb this summer.” I was once a very proficient climber. “Hu, Sure buddy.” I said, thoroughly doubting my ability to even do two pull-ups! Shoot, never mind scale a fake climbing wall, never mind a real rock face!

My workouts were weak, and I found myself crashing during every one. “No, I won’t quit,” I commanded to myself. Week four I started to feel better, and was able to keep up with all the workouts! I was happy, but still not sure if it was working.

Today, my 30th day of P90X, I went skiing with my son. I have not felt so good on my boards in ten years! I hit the terrain park like a competitor. I was strong, agile and totally balanced. Towards the end of the day, I was launching off jumps, commanding cheers and roars from the riders in chairlifts. The BEST feeling was at the end of the last run when my son said, “Who, Dad. That was so awesome. Can you teach me to jump like that?” Smiling, I jeered, “Absolutely!”

Although my visual changes are slight, my insides feel great. My son is resting from a full day of skiing, and I am ready to hit P90X! A month ago I would have been napping for the rest of the day.

Today, after skiing I did my 30day fit test and was amazed with the results… This program works, when all the others I’ve tried fell short! Thanks Tony. Thanks Beach Body!

It’s only day 30, but I have decided to follow through; I am committed and determined; I will succeed! To be continued in 30 more days…
