Knoxville, MD Welcome to my P90X journey. I'm currently in week one of Phase 2. I worked hard in Phase 1 but there were a few workouts that were missed and I did not pay attention to my nutrition. We all know good nutrition is paramount to getting fit, losing weight, being healthy. So that's what is different in Phase 2. I worked hard in Phase 1 but there were a few workouts that were missed and I did not pay attention to my nutrition. We all know good nutrition is paramount to getting fit, losing weight, being healthy. So that's what is different in Phase 2. I'm even more committed to eating right and getting all my workouts in and bringing it to each and every workout. Another difference, a little added cardio. By that I mean I've started a TurboFire rotation as well. So mornings are for TurboFire, evenings are for P90X. I just felt that I had gotten so out of shape I needed the extra jump.
I have not lost weight after the first 30 days due to my inability to commit to a clean diet. However, I've noticed great gains in strength (hey I can do pushups on my toes now!) and I see serious definition in my shoulders and traps. Not to mention the overall positive attitude you gain when you know you are doing something good for yourself.
Another thing that is different is now I'm a BeachBody Coach. I hesitated to become a Coach because let's face it, I'm still a "before". What's inspiring about that? But I won't always be a "before". Becoming a Coach will allow me to help others on their journey and share my struggles and victories along the way. It will also give me one extra level of accountability. How can I slack if I have a responsibliity like this? And let's not overlook the great discount on BeachBody products like Shakeology.
Speaking of Shakeology, what a fabulous way to get the nutrition I need in one glass! Like Carl Daikler admits, I'm not a fan of veggies either. There is now way I'm going to get all my veggies and fruits in every day. And I am forever forgetting to take my vitamins. I love that I no longer have to worry about vitamins. They are right there in my delicious chocolate shake every day. I also love that due to Shakeology, I no longer wake up in the middle of the night. I sleep the whole night through. And it may be a bit too much information, but my system is on a regular schedule and for someone who has never been that way, trust me it's a small miracle.
One more reason for me to embrace Shakeology, I was recently diagnosed with an immune disorder called Morphea. I believe the stats are that it strikes one in one thousand people. More women then men (of course, don't we get all the breaks?). This is considered a mild strain of Scleroderma which is very debilitating. In a sense, I'm lucky that I have the mild case and this just affects the appearance of my skin. But with that comes a great deal of depression and feelings of being self-conscious. This is the main reason I did not do my "before" pics in a bikini. There is no known cause, no known cure. And the research I've done said sometimes it just disappears on it's own after 3-5 years.
But my theory is this: if my immune system is out of whack, can't I reset it? And how does one do that but to clean up their diet, feed their body good wholesome foods, get plenty of sleep, lose the excess weight? BeachBody makes no claims about curing anyone of anything. But I feel that it can only help. If the medical world doesn't know how to fix this, well then there's no one to tell me that a clean lifestyle WON'T fix it, right? Our bodies do an amazing job of healing themselves but we have to give them the right fuel.
I will finish this round of P90X the day before my birthday and I'm hoping to get halfway to my goal by that point. All the way would be fantastic but my goal is to drop 20 - 25 lbs and I want to be realistic. Once you hit your 40's and up, it's a bit tougher to drop the weight and tone up. It's not impossible, you just have to work harder.
After that - it's Insanity time.
