I am a 33 year old, married father of two (12 and 9). I am
not at my heaviest weight (190) but am slowly creeping
back up there (175 now). I got out of the Navy in '98, and
other than a couple years of indoor soccer and, recently
hockey, I have had no consistant physical exercise. I
decided that I have to nip this in the bud and get back to
about 160 as well as achieving a higher fitness

I couldn’t have given myself a better birthday present. I
also got more than I bargained for. I was planning on
keeping it a secret from my wife. She is not a morning
person, so I figured I could commit to getting up early to
workout and see how long it took her to notice the
changes in my body. That would be a true test. However,
my plans were foiled when, about a week later, we
started talking about her weight and that she mentioned
that she wanted to do something about it. I decided I
couldn’t be selfish and let her in on my plan. It was
decided that we would do this together.

I can admit that I am not the best at completing things, so
I knew this was going to take some extra effort. I knew for
my own sake that I was not going to be able to skip a
single workout because it would be too easy to do it
again the next day. Later in the program I did end up
missing a couple days, but by then I had the confidence
to keep going and made each of them up on the next “off”
day. I also had to keep going for my wife. I knew losing
the weight is something she really wanted, but how could
I be supportive of her if I quit. She may not quite know it,
but she kept me going sometimes because of this.

During the first 45 days or so, I would work out and be so
drained, yet a couple hours later, I would be
contemplating my progress and wonder how just 30-40
minutes could really make that much of a difference. I
was so consumed by this that I did not do any other real
exercise other than my morning workouts, and I took no
workout performance enhancers (other than creatine
which just helps recovery). I wanted to see just how real
this was.

It is REAL. How real? I lost 22 pounds (from the day I
ordered P90) and 5.5 inches off my waist. Unlike a lot of
people, I don’t have many people noticing my weight loss
because I carried most of it in my waist area and loose
fitting shirts covered it up. But I notice it, my wife notices it,
and even better, my kids notice it. In addition, I now have
muscles in my arms. Some people may claim that they
were there all along, but you can see them now. My kids
even ask me to show their friends. I “reluctantly” agree.

P90 has not only show that I can grow (or shrink)
physically, but also mentally. I have a newfound
understanding of nutrition. I have learned to eat better. I
have thrown question after question at the Fitness
Advisor and Advice Staff regarding my diet, some even
seeming kind of petty, but getting back informative
answers every time. Just by changing what you eat, when
you eat, and how much you eat you can achieve a positive
change in your physical condition. I started applying
Michi’s Ladder the day I ordered P90 and lost 5 pounds
in the three weeks before I started the P90 workouts.

Lastly, I can’t stress the importance of the message
boards. It seems odd that people a thousand miles away
can help make you do something. Some mornings I
would be lying in bed, when the mind does the most
thinking, trying to figure out every reason imaginable for
you to stay where you are. Some days what it took was
thinking of those on the July Newbies thread, knowing
that I could not let them down, or more importantly, have
to admit to them that I had slipped. You develop a bond
with these people you have never seen. These people
are friends, supporters, even when you have your darkest
days. You all share a common bond, a common goal.
