My name is Aaron and I chose P90X because, like so many others before me, I saw something in the mirror I refused to believe was me, I finally got sick of accepting my current physical state and decided to make a change. The irony is I used to be in the greatest shape, I was a United States Marine, I ran 3 miles in 17 minutes, always had perfect PFT's but after leaving the Marines and starting school as a double major pursuing a B.S. in chemistry and biology I made school, my love interest and chemical research more important with each passing year than my own well being and physical health. After ending up in the hospital 1 year ago on July 20th and finally being diagnosed with combat-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) I was having frequent, violent panic attacks and anxiety and depression have been an issue for this entire year. The PTSD forced me to take medical leave from school and work and I have lost my apartment and was forced to move in with family. It's crazy to think that I went from being a hard charging, motivated Marine, competed in triathlons, loved the outdoors and especially running, took a research project from start to finish in less than 3 years and even got my pilot's license to satisfy my love of aviation, to being almost completely debilitated and immobile. After recently starting new treatment at the VA and finding out how much I weighed (242.5 lbs) I was horrified, disappointed and disgusted and in disbelief. During the last summer I had begun to work out in the gym again weight lifting and lost a good 20+ lbs over the course of just 8 weeks. Despite this adversity I am now faced with, I have made a choice to make a change and chose P90X on the recommendation of several people, staff at the VA and family members. I am determined to reclaim the Aaron that I know and that most people knew before I fought in Iraq, and to be whole not just of mind and spirit but also body; now that I have learned a valuable lesson, self-sacrifice to the detriment of your health is NOT acceptable. So, now I am motivated and determined to reclaim the body I know I deserve and have laying underneath. I hope this program changes my whole life and that it revives the extreme drive I've always possessed in the past to strive for excellence. Glad to be a part of this program and I hope to meet plenty of like-minded folks.
