Forty-seven year old mother of a 25 year old (soon to be 26!) step-daughter, and a 23 year old step-daughter; have 3 step-grandchildren. I have always been basically active with a somewhat athletic build. In Oct. 2009, I lost my job for the first time in my life. I always thought if I had more time I would work out on schedule and make me the number one priority. Once again, I put everyone else first. I tidied up some things that had been hanging in our life and professionally bottled the bbq sauce my husband uses in his catering business. I completely let myself fall into an abyss of self-pity. I had gained about 20-25 pounds in the past ten years and wasn't very happy about it, but didn't feel a sense of urgency to do anything about it. During my bout of unemployment, in only 3 months, I put on another 10 pounds! I was almost 170lbs and devastated. I did not feel well, I was smoking, I was drinking far too much wine (everyday!), and did the exact opposite of what I had pictured. After the holidays, I put my foot down. Before this gets completely out of control, I'm taking my life and my health back. I am going to live a very long time, and am working on a book I have been wanting to write. You'll see more of me in the future.

When I started my transformation I was at a personal low. I found myself unemployed for the first time in my life. My husband had been unemployed for 8 months in the previous year, had found employment, worked for 6 weeks and was laid off again. I met my husband 18 years ago when we worked at the same place. I immediately fell head over heels! We were both long term employees, 17 years and 25 years. The factory we worked at shut down and we were laid off. For the next 4 years I worked a couple of jobs (up to 3 at one time) to keep the home fires burning. My husband worked odd jobs but was never able to replace his 25 year employment and pay. We went from a 6 figure income to literally, no income. I had always been fairly active, but told myself when if I had more time (like no job!) I would work out and get in the best shape of my life. In addition to our unemployment status, I also had one child who was a recovering drug addict and had slipped into relapse. Several other circumstances took place that same year and it just proved more than I could take. Instead of making my promise to myself true, I started drinking too much, started smoking again, and spent my days wandering and wondering. I gained 10 pounds in 3 months. About the age of 37 I had started to gain weight and had put on 25 pounds over the past 10 years. I put myself back into school full time to keep my brain from going stale, but I negelected my health and my body. After the holidays I weighed myself and could not believe the damage I had done in 3 months. I made a committment to me, to put me first again! I started to work out again. I committed to pay attention to my health and regain my state of mental peace I had known before. Because of the financial situation we found ourselves in, I was not able to purchase some of the expensive supplements I wanted, but shopped around and read labels and got the best quality I could. My husband and I both love to cook and make almost everything from scratch. When grocery shopping we shopped the meat, dairy and produce sections, save money, and are able to make fantastic, home cooked, flavorful meals. Exercising and taking care of my physical and mental health are free! Anywhere, anytime I can take care of me. I sleep so deep and so well, I feel better, and by the end of my goal, I will look fantastic again.
