My transformation story is one that is still in the making. Every day I push myself to reach new levels of fitness and continue to focus on healthy lifestyle changes. In high school I was a healthy teenager, although I did not play team sports I excelled at bicycle riding. Every chance I had I was on my bike riding, often to visit my grandparents who lived 20 back country miles away. I probably rode there for the secret handshake that my grandfather did, which made a $2 bill magically appear in my hand, but none the less riding was my passion. I joined the United States Navy while in high school and left immediately after graduation. The next 8 years were the highlight of my life. I was stationed on the U.S.S. Monsoon, a small craft assigned to Special Boat Squadron 1 out of Coronado California. I spent those years traveling the world and doing missions that demanded us to be both physically and mentally fit. My last 3 years in the Navy were spent as a recruiter. This is where my life took a detour and sedentary took over. My days were spent in a car, class room presentations or my office making phone calls 60 to 80 hour a weeks. When I was off all I wanted to do was sit around, eat and watch television. 3 years of this and I went from 186 pounds to 227 pounds. I left the military 2 weeks after September 11, 2001. The next 8 years of my life I spent in retail sales, moving to retail sales management quickly. Everything was great. I married my wonderful wife, financially we were on the right track, we were blessed with healthy children but I worked and worked and ate and ate. On top of this I was a pack a day smoker. I attempted to quit smoking several times only to gain the weight and then relapse and begin smoking again. This took its toll on my physically as I ballooned to 278 pounds. That brings us to where we are now. I quit smoking on June 30th 2009 and I haven’t looked back since. The sight and smell makes me sick. I joined my local gym and began the process of healing my lungs and heart. I would walk/run 3 miles a day, lift weights with the major muscle groups to help burn some calories, but all the weight I was carrying was taking its toll on my shins. I would have to run through the pain associated with shin splints but I was determined and kept pushing my body to its limits until my body decided to take over. I had to stop running. I lost a few pounds but nothing major. My wife has been my support all along; allowing me to spend whatever was needed to accomplish my goals. We started reading anything we could get our hands on about nutrition and supplements. I became energized by what I was reading and that’s when my life changed. I began dieting and eating more organic, drinking plenty of water, taking vitamins, and lowering my carbohydrates. I started feeling better almost immediately. Shortly after beginning my lifestyle changes I kept remembering all the infomercials and internet advertisements for P90X and I was supercharged to give it a try. What did I have to lose? Oh about 75 pounds. I borrowed a copy from a friend who was to afraid to commit, and my wife and I began. My first 2 weeks I spent in pain. I knew my body was accepting the changes and although I was sore I continued to push play. I am currently 6 weeks into it and I have seen phenomenal changes in my body, strength and health. P90X has kept me motivated and will continue to do so. It really should be called P-lifetime-X. When I look into the mirror, I see skinny and………………………. “NOTHING TASTES AS GREAT AS SKINNY FEELS”
