San Antonio, TX I am 46 years old, married, and own 2 dogs. In 1982 I was in a serious car accident that left me almost paralyzed. In 1982 I was in a serious car accident that left me almost paralyzed. I have Harrington rods in my back that run almost the entire length of my spine, and they are both broken. I also have a neurogenic bladder and have been plagued with bladder infections. For awhile I was plagued with water retention and brain fog, but I removed all artificial sweeteners in my life, and the water retention issues have practically disappeared. I use Agave Syrup and Stevia instead.
Recently I have been told that my cholesterol is too high. My doctor wanted to put me on medication to bring it down but I opted to give changing my diet a try first. I also now have the beginnings of a condition called a "torturous colon", meaning it is a couple of twists in it and it's a bit longer than normal. I am told that this condition is fairly common and that the maintenance for it is a high fiber diet with lots of water. No Atkins for me. After doing a ton of reading, including tips from Chalene Johnson and Tosca Reno, "eating clean" seems like the perfect solution.
I had been working out and lost some weight doing Turbo Jam and Step Aerobics classes. Then I tore a ligament in my left ankle (doing step aerobics) that left me unable to workout for 8 months. I was depressed. My eating got out of control (late night snacking and sweets in particular.) Needless to say I put on over 20lbs. I weighed 181 before the injury, which was already too much weight for my 5'2" frame, and I am now at about 198. I feel heavier than I did before I lost weight in 2005/2006, even though I weighed 196 before.
In 2009 I suffered a back spasm while weight lifting. I still have minor back pain that may be from arthritis occurring where I had a back injury. This literally has stopped me in my tracks as fear of another spasm put my 2009 in limbo. I had lost 16-18 lbs, but they are back. Obesity is high in my family on both sides. It is totally because of poor diet and lack of exercise, two things that I know are totally under my control.
I believe that Team Beach Body has tools for me to get my back in better condition and can help me with my overall health and fitness goals. The key will be to start slow and build up. I plan to use Slim in Six and Yoga Booty Ballet to get me started. Then I will move into Turbo Jam and Hip Hop Abs to increase my stamina. In six months or less I would like to try P90X, but I will wait and see. One day at a time, one workout at a time towards my dream of a healthier and happier me.

1/1/2010 After a back spasm several month ago, I am back to the drawing board. Dis-heartening? Yes, but that is the beauty of a new year and re-setting goals.
The first part of my goal is only to look back for ways to improve what I did, and not to regret what I could not accomplish.
This is not really my transformation story. It is just the first chapter in my new journey. I am starting it with Slim in Six, and some Yoga Booty Ballet. I will write again with results and what the next part of my journey will be.
So the first step in my future success starts today: renewing my commitment to being more fit and healthier. And I know my Team Beachbody Buddies will be there to help me with encouragement and inspiration. Thanks to all my buddies and Beachbody for creating this wonderful and supportive community!
