I've been kind of flabby all my life. At no point did I ever feel like I was in shape, at least as far as my appearance went. I exercised on and off since I was twelve, but I never came to terms with the nutrition side of things and I never stuck to any program because I saw little payback, if any, when I looked in the mirror.
A life of convenient eating and a sedentary lifestyle brought my weight up to 290 and I was technically classified as obese. I remember the day that I saw that 290 on the scale and I knew I had to turn this trend around.
My sister-in-law turned my wife and I onto Chalene Extreme. I had never worked out to a video before and liked the idea that it's a very organized and straightfoward program so I decided to use that as my routine to take control of my life again.
Unfortunately, we didn't attempt or even look at the nutrition side of things and simply stopped eating fast food and we really cut back on eating out. This hindered my progress somewhat but I didn't realize it because I was actually losing weight quite quickly. After two months, I was down 27 pounds!
After two months though, I really grew tired of Chalene and her buddies because it's very much geared toward the ladies. I found their psychological methods to be somewhat grating on the nerves. I was ready for something different, so I started running. I couldn't believe it when I found myself able to run a mile without stopping to catch my breath!
I spent a few weeks running but I grew tired of that because it was the same routine every time. After a week or two, I knew I needed to do SOMETHING and I knew I didn't want to do Chalene, nor was a disciplined enough to stick to a self-created workout.
I remembered hearing mention of p90x on a fitness forum a few years ago. I didn't know what it was or what all the rave was about, but it seemed to be highly recommended so I did some looking around on the internet and liked what I saw. One of the big factors was watching "Klimatik"'s results video on YouTube. I could handle results like that.
So hear I am on July 3rd of 2009, finishing up my first phase with only a few days to go and I'm seeing changes already. My gut is shrinking and my arms are more defined. Much of the fat has disappeared from my face and my clothes are looser. The belt that I've had since my Freshman year in college is too long now. And in less than 4 weeks, I have lost 10 pounds.
I noticed that whenever I mentioned that I was doing p90x, people already knew what it was and were interested in it. One of my friends has already started. I love that even though I'm not even through phase 1, I'm already having an impact on others and getting them started on changing their lives, so it only seemed natural for me to be an official beachbody coach.
So here I am on day 26 and I'm already a coach, I'm already seeing results, and others are noticing as well. These are exciting times for me and I certainly hope you get in on the action as well. BRING IT!
