Kannapolis, NC Hi everyone. I truely appreciate you stopping by. My name is Becky, am 57 years old and I am now very privileged to be a Team Beachbody Coach.
I'll try to rundown my decision to give BB a try in the first place. Before I started, I was not one to exercise or do any type of weight training. I actually snarled at the idea of it.

I'll try to rundown my decision to give BB a try in the first place. Before I started, I was not one to exercise or do any type of weight training. I actually snarled at the idea of it.
I had been having some health problems - one biggie is that I am an insulin dependent diabetic and if there are other diabetics out there, you know first hand that when the sugars go haywire, so does everything else. Long story short, I was in the hospital for almost two weeks around the end of 2006. I had had mini strokes and because of that, my sugar and A1c went thru the roof. I was severely dehydrated and my kidneys were shutting down. Because my sugars were so high (over 700!!)the doctors 'crashed' me down quite fast. Because of that, my retinas swelled and was literally blinded for almost a month. Scared?? You betcha!
What it all boiled down to was, of course, I did not take care of myself. I was so busy taking care of my job and my husband and every other aspect of my life, I, somehow, left myself out of the equasion.
Now, I want to explain to you that at this point I was very thin. I am 5'11'' and only weighed 127 lbs. Really not all that healthy looking. I looked like a walking stick. Anyway, the doctors thought it would be a good idea if I was re-educated with diabetic nutrition, so I was sent to the diabetic center (that was associated with our hospital). I went to the classes and was given a 31 day meal plan (5 meals a day). It had the amount of calories and carbs listed for everything that I was to eat. I asked them point blank, 'will I not gain a lot of weight if I eat all this?'. The answer I got - said 'not if you do this right'. So what I did was follow that 31 day meal plan EXACTLY, even if there were foods on the list I don't care for, for 3 months until my next appointment with them. I went from 127 lbs to 165 lbs in a matter of 3 months! Then 2 months later I had my appointment with the endocrinologist and my weight was 186. I flat out told him, no way, no how will I go back there. He charted that coversation and agreed, however he did stress the importance of nutrition and the 5 meals a day and some form of exercise. So, I struck out on my own to see what I could do in the way of weight loss. I did ok, I got down to 179, but seem to be at a standstill. I teetered between 179 and 185. Getting disgusted.
Now, my daughter was really getting into an exercise and nutrition program. She talked about it a lot but I never really paid much attention. However, each time I saw her there were notable changes in her appearance. She was looking better and better. She continually talked about Power 90.
One morning, I got on the bathroom scale and said that's it! I called her up and hollered HELP. She told me if I was serious about making at least a 90 day committment, she will be there. Well, I was and she did. It was the hardest work that I believe I have ever done in my life. We figured out what my daily calorie and carb intake should be, and I started with P90. After the 1st week, I was ready to quit -I struggled! But I kept going. - and it did get easier.
By the end of P90's 1st round, I could see noticable changes. My clothes were fitting looser, I most definitly was gaining muscle strenth especially in my upper arms and legs and I was physically AND mentally- feeling better about myself. The only thing I was not happy with was the scale -that rotten piece of scrap metal on the floor. I actually gained a couple of pounds! But more times than not, that is what happens when you are building muscle. So I was convinced to stay with it another 90 days, but this time I mixed it up with some good cardio workouts from Chalene Johnson and Turbo Jam.
(I know I am getting too wordy - am trying to make long story short--really).
The next visit to my endocrinologist (4 months later), low and behold, my A1c has dropped to a decent level and my cholestoral is at a decent level. He told me whatever I'm doing -keep it up. Then I did something really dumb. REALLY DUMB!! I slacked off. I told myself I am doing so much better, I don't need this anymore. Guess what? You got it, I gained it back, the muscles I worked so hard to achieve are flapping in the breeze again. And you have probably already guessed, all my lab numbers went wrong again.
I was so digusted with myself I couldn't see straight. Then it finally hit me --what so many people have tried to drill into my head -- this is not a diet and exercise program. This is a lifestyle change. So I did it again, but this time with the determination once I am at a weight and size I am happy with I will continue to eat properly and exercise so that I can maintain what I have once again achieved.
My weight is and has been holding steady now for 7 months at 152 (remember I am almost 6' tall). My size is an 11 which I am thrilled with. My last trip to the endocrinologist (I go every 4 months)my A1c was 7.2 (he wants to see it either 6.9 or 7.0)--but it is going in the right direction and my total cholestoral was 181. I cannot remember it ever being that low.
I said at the beginning that I am 57 years old. Well, I am ONLY 57 years old. I got a lot of life ahead of me and lots to do. I was a mess, but not anymore. I have gotten so much encouragement, whether it be thru coach's help, the message boards, or exercise buddies thru WOWY and if I am able to encourage just one person, help that person attain their goal, to look better and feel better about themselves then I'll feel like I am giving back to what was given to me thru TBB.
You have to DECIDE to change. COMMITT to the program and you will see change. Do it for you.
If you do that, then you will SUCCEED. I am living proof.
This program is incredible

My main goal is to maintain the weight I have achieved and keep my A1c and cholestoral numbers at a level I can live with (and my doctor is happy with, too!). I really don't want to lose any more weight. I think for my height, my weight is good, but I am working on building more muscle and sculpting my body so that with the weight I have achieved, I not only feel good, but look good, too. Diabetes is a vicious disease. It will attack every organ in your body, starting with your eyes on down to your toes. It CAN be managed and controlled. It will NOT get the better of me ever again. Nutrition and exercise is the key.
