Stroudsburg, PA I used to be a really fit person in Brazil and had a very active lifestyle. I walked a few miles every day from school to my dad’s shop and used to be extremely busy during the summer time kayaking, fishing, hiking, playing sports, etc.

I was a gymnast for 11 years and trained hard from age 5 to 16 until I had a terrible accident in the vault months before a very important competition. My foot got torn so bad and it took me several months to walk again.
Eleven years ago I moved to the US to continue studying biology. Back then I was still in “decent” shape compared to the majority of college kids my age, but was by no means fit. I married my beautiful wife in 2002 and did not do much in terms of dieting and exercising. I fully embraced the wonders of supersized meals, late night snacks, three 1.5 quarts of ice cream a week, fried food, chicharrón (fried pork rinds – I can thank my Colombian wife’s family for that) and little to no exercise.
One day, already in my 30’s, I looked myself in the mirror and I saw a 5’7” person 35 pounds overweight. I was depressed and hid my belly mostly through baggy button shirts I used at work.
I failed at many attempts to lose weight by taking a very drastic approach to dieting. The worst part was that I knew I was doing the wrong things to begin with. Ironically, my friends would come to me for advice about exercising and dieting and in the meantime, I was doing the opposite I was telling my friends should do. I was experimenting with cleanses, cutting calories radically and the weight would yo-yo back and forth.
When I was hit with news from my doctor about high cholesterol, I decided to COMMIT to P90X and Insanity. I pushed play every day. I never looked for excuses. I never skipped workouts and worked on the clock towards achieving my fitness goals. It was HARD but I never let time or family interfere. I knew that if I had enough time to watch my favorite TV show, I owed to myself and to my family the COMMITMENT to change myself.
I CHANGED everything about my diet and gave it 100%. I did not skip meals or cheated on my meal plan. I realized that it is not just about dieting, which is often short-term, it is about CHANGING YOUR LIFESTYLE and that includes eating well for life!
The results… well, I couldn’t be happier. I lost all the fat I had gained over the years. I boosted the nutrition plan with foods that naturally lower cholesterol and was able to avoid taking medicine, gained an enormous amount of energy to keep up with my teaching jobs, my little ones and everything else. I now feel great about myself, about helping others and am now able to do things in my 30’s that I could only do in my teens. The best part… this is only the beginning!

I was never severely overweight but was 35 pounds heavier than my normal weight 10 years ago. I was making very poor food choices and stopped exercising altogether.
First, I blamed it on grad school, then on my wife’s cooking, then the kids, then the hectic lifestyle.
But guess what? Although there are several factors that make it harder to stick to an exercise program, it is a matter of ACCOUNTABILITY and COMMITTMENT.
I knew I was responsible for making the right or wrong decisions.
I knew I had to literally “get with the program.” I had no one but myself to blame for unsuccessful past attempts of redeeming the poor health choices I made.
I started off doing Chalean Extreme because I did not feel mentally ready for P90X. After I gained confidence and started feeling better about myself and my results, I started a hybrid P90X/insanity program which I embraced and look forward to doing every day.
I learned more about nutrition and followed the diet plan. I now feel great and have reached my original goal.
I lost all fat from 10 years of neglect and am now in the process of gaining muscle mass. BRING IT!
