I was always a skinny kid growing up, but was never all that athletic. I ran track some in High School, but that was about it. After graduating from law school in 1994, I steadily began to gain about 10 pounds a year until I’d reached a high of 218 pounds. Which; on a slight frame that stands only 5'10" tall, was way too much.
In 2003, I ordered P90 and had some pretty good success with it. I lost 30 pounds, actually ran a 5K in March 2004 and was feeling great. Then I got hurt. I cracked some ribs after I fell off my roof and then cracked them shortly after they healed by going back to karate way too early. So I quit. I used all the excuses and “started over” several times only to wuss out after a week or so.
But this time, I just can’t quit again. I’ve seen the health problems my father and my older sister have due to weight issues and since I’m creeping up on 40, I know that it’s just not going to get any easier for me to lose weight. I have a wonderful wife and two beautiful children who need me and I need them. I want to set a good example for my kids and for all those around me.
This time, I can’t fail.
So I’m on the boards nearly every day. I’m in the chat rooms. I’m keeping track of what I eat and when I work out.
In addition to the great P90 workouts, I’ve dusted off my bike, started running again, picked up racquetball from time to time again and just tried to live a more active and healthy lifestyle. I drink close to a gallon of water a day and try to stay away from processed and junk foods (that’s the biggest problem I’ve got to overcome).
My goal is to back to running races again by the spring and maybe even getting to the point where I can place in my age division. But more importantly, my goal is to be active, healthy, and happy for my wife, my children and my grandchildren (hopefully quite a ways away). So I guess my long-term goal is to also be able to run races and place in my age division . . . when I’m 80!
Oh, and Tony . . . Hawaii would be nice, too. But I know I have to EARN that one.
