My name is Ben and I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, home of the Kentucky Derby. Currently, I am a 21-year old college senior majoring in Landscape Architecture at the University of Kentucky. I am also a scratch golfer and if it weren't for the time requirements of my major, I would be playing golf on UK's team. This past summer, I was in great shape at 185-190 lbs. and about 10% BF due to my summer job on the greens crew at a local country club (manual labor: landscaping, laying sod, mowing grass, planting and removing trees/shrubs, etc.) and working out 5-6 days a week after work (running,HIIT,extensive weight training, etc.). However, since school has started up again, I have put a lot of weight back on (some of which is muscle since I continue to work out on a regular basis but a lot of which is also fat due to unhealthy eating styles while at college). I am still not "out of shape" or unhealthy but I currently weigh about 200-205 pounds. I am 6'2" with a medium build so I still look fit and feel athletic--I just want to eliminate that excess fat around my midsection and gain more flexibility, strength, endurance, and tone. A friend and I just got the P90X system after seeing amazing results on the infomercial and reading countless reviews and I am hoping to get back into even better shape before this coming Summer and hopefully by Spring Break time as well...haha.
Currently (December 30, 2009), I am 6'2", my weight is right at 197-200 lbs., and I am around 14-15% B.F. My upper body is fairly developed, but I feel my chest and back could still use some work so I plan on adding an additional gym workout one day a week in addition to P90X to help with development in those areas. I have admittedly neglected my lower body, and need a LOT of work in that area (especially quads). I just did the Ab Ripper X workout today and my abs held up fine--it was my quads that held me back.
My long-term goals are to reduce my body fat percentage to 8%, losing 14 pounds of fat and gaining at least 5 pounds of muscle. My final weight should be around 188 lbs. I am not looking to get huge, just a little bit more developed, toned, and ripped. I really want to increase my core strength too for golf purposes and overall athleticism.
I am also COMPLETELY aware of how important my diet is to my results--80% diet, 20% resistance and cardio workout. I am COMPLETELY committed to this as well and have been following a high protein, low fat diet (40% complex carbs, 30% protein, 30% healthy fat) for a about two weeks now. I just need a little more help on calorie intake. I am willing to put in the time and effort and am ready to be in the best shape of my life. I have never been one to believe in quick fixes and realize that ALL good things come with hard work and dedication. All I need as simple advice to make sure I am doing the best things for ME and people to motivate me to continue the P90X routine when I hit rough patches. Thanks for all the support guys and gals!
