Albertville, MN In 2007, after leaving the Army for a couple of years, I was devastated to hear from my doctor that I was obese. I was at 225lbs, no longer exercising, and being treated for sleep apnea. This was during the same time that I was contemplating returning to the Army to become a Chaplain. The problem was that I was too overweight and would not meet the Army’s standards. I spent the next few months In 2007, after leaving the Army for a couple of years, I was devastated to hear from my doctor that I was obese. I was at 225lbs, no longer exercising, and being treated for sleep apnea. This was during the same time that I was contemplating returning to the Army to become a Chaplain. The problem was that I was too overweight and would not meet the Army’s standards. I spent the next few months working out and eventually got down to 189lbs, the Army’s maximum weight for my age. Over the next few years my weight fluctuated. I was a full-time student, working full-time, and just didn’t have time to go to the gym anymore. I began putting more pounds back on, meaning to get back into working out as soon as I could find the time. Well, that time never came, except for a couple of days of running, trying out gym memberships, doing a few push-ups and sit-ups here and there.
When I attended my officer basic course, I again was devastated when I failed the initial PT test. This meant that for the rest of the time until my next test I would be on remedial PT. This was awful but a blessing at the same time. I was forced to do PT in the morning and in the evening and quickly began losing weight and getting into great shape. I got down to 185lbs and passed the next PT test, as well as the final PT test.
Then it happened again. After I completed my basic course I went back into my old routine, meaning to keep working out but never actually doing it. My recently fit self was gaining weight again and I was struggling with my fitness. I managed to be able to work out enough to pass the next PT tests but that was about all. I took out a trial membership at a gym and never attended. I tried running more, but in the middle of a Minnesota winter had no desire to go outside.
My wife decided that we both were going to get in shape. I had heard of P90X and seen the infomercials and decided to give it a try. It was tough but I began seeing result within the first two weeks, losing 5lbs. I started being conscious of what I ate and followed the nutrition plan religiously. I did miss a few days due to school, but I am back to working out every day and seeing great results. I weighed in at 175lbs and am feeling awesome.
I decided that I wanted to be able to offer to others a way to get fit so I signed on as a Beachbody Coach, thinking that I would just wait until I finished my Master’s degree to actually start. Well, I ended up starting immediately and found time to do my school work and workout by cutting out the time wasters. If you are looking for a way to get fit or would like an opportunity to become financially fit you should consider being a Beachbody Coach also. 1Th5:23.
