My siblings and all are all naturally thin. But somehow, as a sophomore in high school, I started to see my body in a false light. I started examining my figure daily in the mirror, finding more flaws than good features on any given day.

I made a commitment to eat healthier (which WAS actually needed) and start doing Pilates 3x a week. I started to feel better, more confident. I was in a good place, health-wise. Unfortunately, that didn't last too long.

When my mom was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, she announced that she needed to go on a very carb-restricted diet. I was saddened by her disease and wanted to be supportive. I also still had self-concious thoughts in the back of my head saying, "if you dieted with her, you'd help her AND lose weight." I knew I was slim, but I wanted to be slimmer. I wasn't anywhere near a serious eating disorder, but I had become moderately obsessed with my body image - I was hard on myself. I thought, "If I'm already thin, it might be fun to see just how thin I could get on a DIET!"

Thus began the yo-yo effect. My junior year, at 5'4"and 17 years old, I had dieted my way down to 109 pounds, and I was quite proud of it. Unfortunately, the restrictive diet didn't last as long as I had hoped, and, diet-wise, I went the extreme opposite direction. My thoughts were always on when and how I would start my next diet and far too many days became marked as "the last day I can eat whatever I wish." My habits were unhealthy. My thought process was unhealthy.

At my older sister's wedding in September 2008, I was teetering around 128-130 pounds - a 20+ lb. weigh gain in just about a year and a half. With my smaller frame, I was less than pleased. I knew that the cycle of dieting had to end. I knew that I needed to change my way of thinking. I'd been exercising on and off throughout this process, but never with much zeal.

Soon after that, I discovered what became (and still is) my favorite form of exercise: Turbo Jam! I spent seven years of my childhood and teen years dancing, and LOVED how much I could totally rock out and groove to this workout. At last, I knew I was doing something GOOD for my body, and I was confident that I would see results. And I did! I am currently in the best shape of my life. I used to have very little confidence in my ability to perform on an athletic or aerobic level; now, I can go for runs, weight lift and exercise better, harder and longer than I ever have before! I am so thankful to Chalene for creating such a fun, effective workout program.

Since being introduced to Turbo, I have enjoyed Power 90, Slim in 6, the Slim Series and Yoga Booty Ballet.
