Growing up I was always chubby and would always hide behind loose clothing. My family didn't exactly had the healthiest diet either nor did they encourage physical activity. I think this was because they were way too busy working long hours that they had no time for my sister and I. As I entered my early 20's, I was partying, doing drugs and drinking too much alcohol. I became friends with people who I thought were a good crowd of people to be with. I was naive and insecure about myself. Being around this group of people, I felt that I belonged for once. I basically was using the party lifestyle to mask my unhappiness with myself because I felt like I had no purpose. Eventually I got tired of that life and wanting to make a change for the better. By coincidence I got really sick after getting bit by a bug or tick. I had some sort of infection that weakened my immune system; possibly Lyme disease, but the doctors didn't give me any further information. I recovered from that ordeal, then a few months later I was unbelievably sick to the point I could not get out of bed. I was diagnosed with Lupus SLE and was told to take a bunch of medication to basically bring me back to normal. I was told that I would basically be sick for the rest of my life because there is no cure for this disease. I was depressed, gaining weight, in pain and thought I was going to die early. I was just 23 years old at the time. That was my turning point. I refused to be handed my future by some doctor. I began exercising and searching for ways to self heal through eating healthy. After less than 2 months I was able to put my condition into remission. I wasn't consistent with my exercise and diet, but just enough so I could keep Lupus in remission. I still wanted to lose the weight I gained from all the medications, plus weight I had put on over the years. Late one evening, I saw an infomercial on P90X and wanted to try it but couldn't afford it, so I downloaded the program. I did one workout and after that I didn't bother to finish. A year later I tried it again. It was still too hard and I gave up again. One day my boyfriend and his friends mentioned something about doing a workout called Insanity. At the time I was jogging outside and would try doing a bit of the workouts from P90X with a bit of success but nothing to be proud of. I got hooked to Insanity because I saw results immediately. I loved the intensity and the competition against my boyfriend and all his friends (especially since they were all males). I went on to go through a few rounds of P90X and Insanity. My results were pretty good but I never quite got the nutrition down. I still work at this every day. I became a Team Beachbody coach because I really enjoy helping people and talking to them about my love for fitness and health.
