Hi,
I'm Scott. I was born in Maui, Hawaii April 13th 1991. When I was 13 I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease which causes inflammation in my intestines. This caused me to not be able to ingest the necessary proteins and nutrients I needed to grow. I was put on steroids to help me get my weight up a bit because in 8th grade I was only 5'1 and 90 pounds. By freshmen year I had gone up to 5'4 and

I had some health problems in my early high school years. As a result, I stopped playing most of the sports that I had been involved in. I was pretty miserable. At first, I didn’t eat much because I was too sick. After I got healthy, I started eating . . . and eating. . . and eating. The weight went on gradually but the problem was that I kept increasing my weight and I didn’t see it leveling off and stopping. I wasn’t too bad, 6 feet and 196 pounds but it was enough that I got teased at school all of the time. My self image was definitely taking a nose dive. I was working on a snorkel boat during the summer and even though I loved the job, I was always embarrassed because I had to take my shirt off to go snorkeling with the guests. One night, I was watching Tony Horton on a TV infomercial and it really caught my attention. To start with, I live in Maui. I wanted a “beach body” but I definitely didn’t have one. I had tried diets but I gained back the weight right away. When I listened to what Tony had to say and watched the workouts, something inside of me clicked and I thought that this is something that I really wanted to do. The next morning, I went to the Beachbody.com website and ordered P90X. My first obstacle was how out of shape I had gotten. When I started working out, it was not easy. I was determined to give it a try and stick with the program. After I made it through the first week, I was started to feel proud of my small accomplishment. That was enough to spur me on to do week 2. The weight started coming off fairly easily the first month. I had more energy and was starting to be happier. I found that I totally changed the way that I ate. For snacks, I would have a red bell pepper with a little ranch dressing or a little fruit. I actually liked eating a better diet. I started loosing some of the sugar/junk food cravings that I previously had. One small obstacle I had was that after a month, I got a little bit bored with the routine. Being only 18, I’m definitely a multi-tasker and I needed something to distract my mind while I was working out. I brought another TV into my work out room and hooked it up. I would turn a movie on and also have Tony’s workout going at the same time. It’s not for everyone but it worked for me.

I have finished the first 3 months of the P90X program and I am really proud of myself. In 3 months, I lost a little over 30 pounds. For the first time in months, I can start to see my abs! I also have muscles that I have never had before. I don’t want to brag but I feel really good about myself. I’m taking a little break from P90X because I am doing paddling after school (in an outrigger canoe) Since that is a good workout in itself, I’ve decided to wait until paddling is finished them I’m going to do another 3 month session of P90X. I don’t think that I am very unique. I am just a kid who was pretty miserable and has been able to turn his life around thanks to P90X. Somehow, I would like to be able to inspire other kids my age that have had to deal with a weight problem. I just went bodyboarding all weekend and I had my shirt off the entire time! : )
