Long Beach, CA Hello and welcome!
My name is Michael…I’m a 42 year old father of a beautiful 12 year old little lady named Taylor, and a former U.S. Marine.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been referred to by others as “healthy” and “fit”. And…I won’t say that I disagreed. I routinely challenged myself by running, playing various sports, and lifting weights…all contributing to my overall health. I felt Hello and welcome!
I felt toned! I felt athletic! And to be honest I just simply felt GREAT!
I had honestly got to a point where good health and a healthy appearance seemed “easy”. Cravings for unhealthy food were nonexistent…and daily exercise was “the norm” for me. But then…the unthinkable happened!! While playing hoops, I felt a nice little “pop” and promptly found myself lying on the gym floor holding my left ankle. I had blown my Achilles tendon. Long story short….the recovery time for this type of injury isn’t a swift one. Surgery….several months in a cast/boot, followed by a long period of physical therapy were all necessary to let the leg heal, and to regain at least some of the strength.
I remember at some point thinking to myself….”there’s no way I’m going to let this end the run of great health that I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy”, and I didn’t! While laying around with my leg in the air I not only racked up a multitude of “kills” playing Modern Warfare…I also managed to maintain a very healthy diet. I was especially stoked when a buddy of mine said “man…I thought you were going to lie around and get fat for sure”.
Over the next two years I managed to regain a lot of the strength in my leg that I had lost, and took up running to remain in good health. In April of this year, I managed to keep my weight at a very trim 187lbs. I was running regularly throughout the week and lifting weights three times per week…and as before…I felt GREAT!
But then….”it” happened again. (Insert a BIG sigh here) Not the ankle this time…but an old injury of my left shoulder (one of the four muscles that make up the rotator cuff) was aggravated while lifting, & surgery was necessary to completely fix the tear. Up until this point weight training was accompanied by a painful grimace and a cortisone shot or two.
So I was looking forward to putting this all behind me and getting “back to it”. And as before, I just knew that I wouldn’t fall out of shape while going through the recovery process. (Insert buzzer noise here)….WRONG! And then I thought…”well that’s ok, I’ll just get back to it next week, and all will be well again” (buzzer…again)….WRONG!
In the past few months I’ve steadily put on weight (bad weight). More importantly, I no longer can say that I “feel great”. Aside from the lack of activity due to injury…tack on a few more years of age, toss in a terrible diet, and voila!! You have yourself a 203lb “before” photo! I knew it was bad…but seriously had no idea until I saw a few photos of myself.
At that point, I knew that a little age…a little lapse in discipline, and a couple of nice injuries have all added up to bad health. I also realized that this time, getting back to feeling great wasn’t going to be as easy as it had been in the past. This time I know I need to be realistic and honest with myself…and know that I need something to motivate me…a new challenge!
So…here I am. Yes…I’m still recovering and am not able to lift, etc… but I can do most cardio routines, and it won’t be long until I gain more strength to incorporate weight training. So….I thought, why wait? And…I didn’t. I signed on 100%...my first shipment of Shakeology along with my workout program is on the way.
So now I thank you for stopping by, and invite you to follow the progress, as I knock this out and get this done!
Michael
