I'm 51 yrs old, Married, and have three children. I enjoy golf, riding motorcycles, working out, swimming, and bowling. I started getting interested in a different way to achieve my fitness goals as a result of watching the P90X infomercials on TV. I had a long term goal of getting really fit by age 50; I have been working out for a good number of years with little success as it relates to

Before I began my transformation, my life was normal by comparison to mainstream America. I was fully engaged in career, family, and activities that didn’t involve consistent physical fitness. At age forty-seven, I started working out three times a week at a local gym. At first, I was going pretty regularly. After a couple of months, I would attend the gym only when I felt like working out. My doctor warned me that I needed to be more serious about my health. He had diagnosed me with high blood pressure and told me that I needed to change my diet, and exercise more than three times a week. He explained to me that high blood pressure is also caused by my genetic makeup and to give myself the best chance of keeping it under control, I would have to commit to a different level of diet and fitness. At the time, my exercise program consisted primarily of weight training with some occasional cardio work on the stationary bicycle and stair master machine.

At age forty-eight, I went for a checkup and I got some real disturbing news. Not only was my blood pressure an issue, but I found out that my uric acid level was elevated considerably causing gout, and I was a diabetic. Now I knew why my toe was hurting from time to time, and why I had to go to the bathroom so often. I suddenly realized that everything I had been doing as it related to diet and exercise had to change. Through extensive research, I discovered all three of these diseases had a couple of things in common. They all could be controlled or improved by diet, and exercise. I also learned that certain foods elevated uric acid levels. I started to experiment with the foods that I had been eating; mainly beef and shell fish. I was at the point that I was ready to make a major change. The first major change that I made was to give up the intake of all red meats. The second major change that I made was to seek and find a fitness program that was going to work for me

One Saturday morning, I was at home watching TV and that’s when I saw the first infomercial on P90X. I remember looking at all of the people that were giving testimonies on their results. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. These were the most dramatic changes that I had ever seen in such a short period of time. I was convinced that this was the program for me. Because of procrastination, I let another two months go by before I ordered P90X. I realized that P90X was a program that you were really going to have to work at if you want the results. I was at the point that I needed big changes in my life, and I really felt that this was my opportunity. What really sold me on P90X was how the people giving testimonies were talking about the fact that looks are not all of the benefits from the program. They kept stressing how they were in such good shape, and how the program helped improved their blood pressure and overall health.

Once I made up my mind to commit to the program, I knew there was no stopping me. I remember telling my wife how hard I will be working on this program. I started my first round of P90X on October the 18th 2008. After making my workouts a priority, I was able to stick to the program very well. I did have the normal temptations of food as an obstacle. I went through my program during Thanksgiving and Christmas. At work as well as at home, I had the temptation of falling into some terrible eating habits. I kept thinking of what Tony Horton said in the “How to bring it” video, and that always got me through the tough times. Tony said, “Your job is to trust the program because we’ve tested it, and we know it works”. That quote was enough for me! I also used the BeachBody message boards as source of inspiration.

After completing my first 90 days (on Jan 17, 2009), I have to say that I’m in the best shape of my life. My weight has reduced a few pounds, but my bodyfat has decreased from 19% down to 10%, and I feel great. My waist went from 35” to 32” in diameter. My blood pressure has stabilized (it is always normal), and my blood sugar has never checked out of range since I’ve been eating differently and exercising six days a week. I have not had any problems with gout every since I started P90X. The one thing that has touched me the most is a comment that my wife made to me; we have been married almost fifteen years, and she told me the other day that she wants to take a picture of me and put it on the wallpaper of her cell phone. I have never felt so good in my entire life. When I look in the mirror, I’m pleased with the look of my back, and my abdominal area. Now that I know better, I’ll continually do better. I know that I’ll be pushing play for as long as I’m able.
