Southport, CT I have always struggled with my weight, growing up and even into my teen years. Never obese, but "chubby" as I was always told. I grew up in an Italian household, so you can only imagine all the good food that was around, and I liked to eat. I began bringing exercise into my life in my teen years, just when the exercise craze began to hit the market, Jane Fonda was the newest craze. My parents I have always struggled with my weight, growing up and even into my teen years. Never obese, but "chubby" as I was always told. I grew up in an Italian household, so you can only imagine all the good food that was around, and I liked to eat. I began bringing exercise into my life in my teen years, just when the exercise craze began to hit the market, Jane Fonda was the newest craze. My parents were also an inspiration; My father who was a 2 pack a day smoker most of his life had decided in his 40's to stop cold turkey and take up running. He ran everyday and eventually he ran the NYC Marathon 4 years in a row. I remember watching my Mom when I was a kid, working out with Jack Lalane!
As an adult, I continued to work out in gyms and even these past couple of years I tried to work out with a trainer, but now I am into my 40's and 1 or 2 times a week just wasn't cutting it. I was not seeing any results. There was no motivation and because I was entering my 40's I was beginning to gain more weight. The same old routine was not getting me any results. Going to the gym was a nusance to me, I felt intimidated, and i would wander around not knowing what to do so eventually I stopped.
One day My husband and I were lying in bed on a lazy Sunday morning and we saw the infomercial for P90X. I remember thinking to myself, WOW I would never be able to do that; but I am always up for a challenge and I figured, what the heck, it would be something that my husband and I could do together. And quite frankly at that time, we needed to find something that we could do together that we could share an interest in other than our children. Also my husband was in a rut too, he was running three times a week and hit a plateau!
I will never forget the first morning my husband did the first workout of P90X; he came upstairs from our little home gym and said, Wow, that was hard, but awesome! He also had words of encouragement for me, that he knew I could do this and even if I started by doing push ups on my knees, that he was sure by the end of the 90 days, I would certainly not only be doing pushups on my toes, but I would do the maximum of my potential.
Well he was right, not only am I doing pushups on my toes, pull ups on the pull up bars with one leg chair assists, but I am doing up to 25 push ups and up to 20 pull ups. Not to mention that I have finished two rounds of P90X and I am now beginning to do a third round. I also plan on mixing in "10 Minute Trainer" as well as "Tony Horton's One on Ones". I ski during the winter months with my family and that is not only a bonus as far as getting out there and being active but it also a great way to stay active with the kids!
I am a vegetarian and I love to cook! I am constantly learning new things about eating healthy and organic as well as continuely finding new recipes to keep it exciting! Once you start eating clean and learning that good food isn't boring or tasteless you will learn that you won't need to eat processed or fast foods. Recently I was at a family function where a pre-set menu was already made up for the party. We were asked to order from this menu. My mother leaned over to me and said, "What are you going to eat? Everything is either fried or dripping in dressing." I told her, to just watch, I will simply order the food the way I want it to be cooked. And with this one simple idea in mind, you won't be put off track because you went out to eat and they didn't have anything healthy. Simple things like, dressing on the side, asking for steamed veggies, whole grain bread, no sauces. Even something simple as asking if you could get fresh fruit for dessert even if it is not on the menu. When I first decided to start eating healthy, the first thing I cut out was sodas, even diet sodas, next, I cut out processed foods, fast foods and slowly, my cravings went away. I no longer craved these foods. Instead I knew there were healthy alternatives that not only taste better, but make me feel better after I have eaten them.
Crazy as this sounds, once I started working out, my body needed more healthy food, so I began to eat more small healthy meals. Or sometimes if I am on the run, I will have a P90X bar. Most mornings because I don't have time to sit down and eat the healthy breakfast I would like to have, I have a Shakeology shake and that is the best way to start my morning!
I love getting up every morning and knowing that all I have to do is put on my workout clothes go downstairs and push play, as Tony Horton would say, and that is exactly what I do and I love it!

I started P90X in March of 2009, I have currently finished my second round and will be starting my third. I immediately started to see a difference. Not only in how I looked, but how I felt. Changing my eating habits at first was a challenge, but once you start to see changes in your body, and over all health, it isn't such a challenge. I have lost a total of 10 lbs! But it's not just the weight, its the way your body looks and feels. I have definition in my arms and muscles in my legs that I never had before. I feel healthy and strong! And of course nothing feels better than having to take all your clothes to be tailored because they are too big! I feel and look better than I ever have and I am 44 years old. I never want to go back to the way I was before and I know I won't as long as I continue to do my workouts every day and continue to eat healthy and clean!
