Huntsville, AL I’m an exec for a small company that works too many hours, doesn’t take care of my body, and sometimes feels overwhelmed with the day to day challenges of work and family.
I wasn’t always like this. I’m 5’11” and when I graduated high school I weighed less than 150lbs. I was very active racing motocross in the summer and HS football in the winter. After high school I joined the Army. I wasn’t always like this. I’m 5’11” and when I graduated high school I weighed less than 150lbs. I was very active racing motocross in the summer and HS football in the winter. After high school I joined the Army. For 8 years I was part of a good workout program where I ran 8 miles a week plus many daily exercises.
Years after leaving the military I started my own company. Travel, business meals, socializing, late hours, minimal sleep, and stress started to add the weight on. In 2002 I sold my company and did a lot of nothing for a while. More weight went on. I hit 40 around that time as well. One day I looked at a photo of myself and it hit me. I’m fat. Look at those sausage fingers and that double or triple chin. I decided I had to lose some weight. Due to all the (forced) exercise I did in the military, I’m not a real big fan of exercise today. We have a treadmill and a bowflex, but they just collect dust. I find it very boring to run looking at the wall. I even added a TV on that wall, but still can’t get motivated enough to stick with it. With all I have going on in my life, a demanding job that requires travel, proposals that run late into the night, personnel issues, blah, blah, blah, the house needing repairs, did I mention I have 5 kids, I find it very easy to come up with excuses to not work out. The oldest child has left the nest, but the others are very active in sports. It’s not uncommon to have 3-5 games on a weekend and practices all week long. Well you get the picture, not much time for me.

10/18/08 A couple of weeks ago, I caught the ads for P90X with Tony late at night. It reminded me of some of my military workouts. Having someone to help you through the rough times and someone pushing you to get in shape just makes sense. Plus with the elastic resistance traps, I can exercise while on travel. I purchased the program, read through all the material this week, and plan to start Monday.
10/21/08 Okay the hardest part is over… I pushed the play button this morning at 5:40am. I have officially started the program!!! Getting up that early is a feat in its self. It was a tough workout, but I made it through surprisingly well. This is not going to be easy, but I will get through it!
11/20/08 First 30days went by fast! I only missed two workouts. I can see and feel a change. Even my daughter made the comment "dad, look at those guns." Of course this was right after a workout, but it still felt good.
03/19/09 I stuck to the program for 6weeks. I found out my dad had an inoperable cancer, and my mom has Dementia. Life got real hectic taking my dad to all of this chemo and radiation treatments. I found many excuses not to work out. I gained some weight back. I’m starting back again Monday.
