I am disabled with RSD in my right leg. It all started with AC Ligament reconstruction in my riught knee in Sept. 2003. This is an unpredictable disorder and I have had no success with all known measures for relief. This is a nerve disorder the affects nerve endings but also affects the skin, muscle tissue, and bone. I cannot put much weight on my right leg and suffer pain 24/7. Due to the uneven weigt=ht distribution and use of crutches for walking I now also suffer severe back pain. I gained 70+ pounds in 4 years due to the meds I was on for pain control and inac tivity. Back in July I made it a promise to myself to start losing weight and do what I could to get in shape. I was already eating healthy -especially heart healthy for 2 reasons. There is a history of heart problems on my Dad's side (he has had a triple bypass and suffers d from diabetes) and my husband suffers with high cholesterol and diabetes. I can take most any recipe and "healthify" it and still have a tasty meal. I started putting some weight on my leg as the muscles started to atrophy (additional pain and more problems); I spoke to my pain mgmt doctor (my best friend) and we came up with an anti-seizure med (which I take for pain control) which does not cause weight gain; and I started to move. In the summer I can use my pool I cannot use an indoor pool summer or winter because the indoor temps are too cold on the skin of my right leg and too painful (wind on my leg even hurts it). I also started moving to Tony & the Folks - a gift from my sister Dawn, a MDB coach who is one of the best. I have never posted before today (2/17/08) I am pleased to announced that I have lost just over 40 lbs. since the end of ZJuly even though I sometimes can only work with Tony and the Folks once a week and sometimes only for 10 minutes. At least I am moving, every ounce I take off is that much more weight I take off my bad leg which in turn will help with the uneven weight distribution whioch may hgelp my back. Oh yeah, I forgot to say, I go to physiocal therapy 3 times a week for my back and to my ortho pedic doc once a month and my pain mgmt doc once a month. I cannot sint upright in a chair fot very long without pain and cannpot stand for very long without pain and I am connected to a tens machine (muscle stimulator) for a large portion of my waking hours. But I'm moving (at least a little) and I'm losing. I have 27 lbs or so left to lose to get back to where I was before I hurt my knee.
