Jerome, ID I'd be lying if I didn't say my main motivation was to look good in a bathing suit when I started on the path to getting in shape. I was paranoid about what Sam thought of my "baby fat" and too afraid to ask, and I hated looking at myself in pictures.
Somehow along the way my vanity began to dissipate, and deeper reasons for achieving health and fitness surfaced.

I wanted to be a better example to my children, especially after I realized our then 9-year-old son was struggling to button his size 12 jeans on a diet of Lil' Debbie snack cakes and greasy potato chips.
Heart health weighed heavily on my mind, knowing full well that both of my grandfathers died of heart disease, one a smoker and one a track coach and olympic-level marathon runner.
In my professional environment as an at-home medical transcriptionist, I daily witnessed and documented the comorbidities of pediatric and adult obesity and the devastating reality patients and their families were forced to face as a result.
Energy had become an issue. I no longer wanted to go outside and play with our 4 kids; I thought I was happier vegging on the couch.
I tried getting fit on my own, but it was extremely challenging, and I lost count of the times I gave up. I remember like it was yesterday putting in the P90X Chest, Shoulders & Triceps routine. Sam was hangin' out on the couch watching...until he saw Phil, the attorney. He was immediately envious of Phil's upper body and jumped up to get his workout gear on. That next week, we started the P90X journey as a team.
By the end of our first 30 days of competitive P90X, I had lost about 12 pounds and was feeling so much stronger mentally, emotionally, and physically. At the end of 90 days, I had lost just shy of 30 pounds and had a whole new perspective on life, health, diet, and exercise.
Sam had also shed about 30 pounds of "goo," but the most amazing thing to me was that our 9-year-old son was into size 10 jeans with a belt! He also pulled off 30 pull-ups on the Presidential Fitness Test as a 3rd grader (requirement of 5 to pass) and ran 90+ miles throughout the year for the Mighty Milers program.
Truthfully, I'm still having trouble melting away the last of my abdominal "baby fat," but this time I'm not giving up!
As a family, we've made a permanent lifestyle change, and Tony Horton has changed our 6 lives through P90X. There's nothing I'd like more than to now be able to help others achieve their health and fitness goals!!!

I started the P90X Plus classic program on 07/05/2010 in the hopes of losing about 7 extra lingering, nagging pounds of fat around my midsection. I like to blame these last few pounds on my 4 wonderful children, but in all actuality, I know this is where all my previous candy bars, donuts, pizzas, cheeseburgers, and milkshakes decided to take up residence! Here's to sticking to the plan for another 90 days and making some good things happen!!!
