My transformation started back in 2003 when I was thrown from a horse over his nose and landed on my back and broke my pelvis in two and cracked my tailbone. I was in the hospital for about a week and, with the addition of two screws, I was put back together. I was going through a divorce at the time so didn't have anyone to help me at home so I had to move in with my parents at 40. Not what I wanted but I had no choice. Oh they are nice and all, and I appreciated all they did, but I am a very independent person and was glad when I got healed and moved out.
In the mean time, they were serving me good stuff, healthy and all that, so I lost a little weight even though I wasn't moving around much. That got me thinking, maybe I could get back in shape again. At the time I was up to about 220 and when I left their house I was down to about 215. A couple of months later, I started walking a little and seemed to not hurt much. I talked to my doctor and he said I could run and work out as long as it didn't have pain in my hip area. I started running about a mile and worked up to three in a short time. My six month checkup when I told my doctor how I was doing, and he couldn't believe it.
Well time went on, I ran in a couple 5k races which I wasn't trying to race but only make a good time. This was fulfilling as far as that goes but it wasn't my "fata compli". As I watched some of the other good runners I noticed they had strong legs but not much upper body physique. That's what I was looking for, to get back in shape to play sports like in high school and college.
In the mean time about 2 years later, I met my wife in my bio, and we were looking to get back in good physical condition together. Watching the P90X videos several times on Directv convinced us that was the real deal.
Well, we ordered it in 2008 and started it shortly after. Thinking we were ready we went all out and soon found out we weren't ready. We could barely get out of our bed for about a week. The second time we tried it, something else stopped our progress. I think I even started one more time in fall 2008 on my own and went about five or six weeks and had my appendix needing to come out.
Finally on January 6, 2009 I started it on my own again and made it to the first three weeks plus a recovery week. Then I went another 3 weeks and another recovery week. I got to thinking I'm about to make it this time. Also, I was doing the workouts with Tony and the other peeps a little easier each week. The Ab Ripper didn't seem bad either.
As I was progressing, my wife got the job as the High School Softball coach. I was doing ok with that until the games started, about three weeks from the end, and I had to miss some days to help her at the games as statistician. I hated it but I was still getting usually five in a week. The next thing I know, on April 6, 2009 I graduated my first, of many more I'm sure, P90X program. I wasn't quite as ripped as I could have been but my before and after pics had shown major progress. I celebrated by buying a couple P90X shirts to wear proudly.
Well I want to go farther in my fitness so I'm starting another round of the X here at the end of May, along with some Shakeology. And my wife wants to try the Slim in 6 at the end of the season, which should be arriving here soon. I just kept pushing play and never gave up. I had a few obstacles try to block my progression but I eventually overcame them all. Good Luck to you all in your efforts for total fitness.
