El Cerrito, CA My name is Tracy and I live in the SF Bay Area. Fitness used to be my life (I always worked out and even worked at a gym), that is, before I started grad school then a long exhausting stress filled career. Somehow, the time just got away from me and here I am way out of shape and more importantly, unhealthy with a lack of energy. I know it's time for that to change. Fitness used to be my life (I always worked out and even worked at a gym), that is, before I started grad school then a long exhausting stress filled career. Somehow, the time just got away from me and here I am way out of shape and more importantly, unhealthy with a lack of energy. I know it's time for that to change. I'm not getting any younger and as youthful as I may "look", I'm starting to feel my age and that sucks!! The other thing is that as I look around it's amazing how unhealthy we are as a nation. And so many people don't seem to care - we're fat, our kids are fat and we're getting diseases and dying at an alarming rate. I've made a commitment to my health to make a real lifestyle change. This is not about looking good (although that's a great benefit) but feeling great and being able to enjoy the lifestyle that I want. I really started this transition last year. I started looking at the food I eat (I was previously registered with Fruit and Vegetable Haters of America). I wanted something more - I know I needed to add fruit and veggies to my meals but after doing a ton of research, I decided that the approach for me would be to gradually eliminate most processed foods. I do have some items that I haven't given up, but I'm finally up to about 70% organic (free range, antibiotic and hormone free meat, locally produced fruit, veggies and dairy). I'm trying to eliminate as many chemicals from my diet as I can! No one can tell me that those things aren't killing us!
I've been looking around for a while trying to find something that works for me for fitness. I've done the gym thing - last year I worked out 5 times a week with a trainer and didn't see significant results. (I think I lost 5 pounds in 5 months). I had tried P90x before and thought it was the best and hardest workout that I had ever done - so I believe in it; BUT, I didn't have a support system to help me through those bad days and days when I really didn't feel like doing it. I lasted about 3 weeks and then quit. This year, one of the Beachbody coaches sent me a message about a challenge group he was starting - it was for us to drink Shakeology and do some type of workout 6 days a week. (I started walking to get back into the swing of working out). I also became part of a support group that was dedicated to US. It was better than I could have imagined - supportive, fun, informative. I even started a blog to record and share my journey to fitness. I don't want to tell people what to do. We each have to make our own decisions, but if my journey can inspire someone else, then that's even better. Feel free to check it out at www.ablackwomansjourney.blogspot.com.
Cheers to health!

I updated my Workout Start date to coincide with my start of a Power90 challenge. I'm so excited about it and it's only Day 3. In fact, I did my workout already, had a tall glass of Shakeology and just had a healthy lunch (could this be a new day for me?) - I actually cooked asparagus to go with some chicken for lunch!
Starting out is hard work but I'm focused on finding the balance between pushing hard and pushing too hard. I need to go strong for the rest of the challenge.
