Growing up I was always the small, skinny one, often being teased by the kids at school. I danced ballet, tap and jazz into my early twenties, but ate whatever I wanted. It wasn't until after I was married and had children that I put on weight - no more invincible Jennifer. I was at my heaviest weight after having my last child in 1998. I wasn't considered obese, but I certainly wasn't happy with the way I looked or the way I felt. I had no energy, I was tired all the time, and I suffered constant headaches. Thankfully I was raised a healthy eater, but I knew next to nothing about exercise for weight loss. I lost some weight by using cardio equipment and counting calories, but I always put it back on because I found the exercise too boring and would quit.
In October 2006 I saw the ads for Turbo Jam on television and had high hopes that it could cure my dread of "the boring workout." I bought the program, and followed it up with P90X several months later. Still fighting with motivation, I used both the programs sporadically but finally hit a groove and lost 12 pounds and 2 sizes. I started seeing muscle definition, I had more energy, I was happier, and I had no more headaches.
Then in late 2007 I had two surgeries after being diagnosed with endometriosis, and I lost my momentum. For the next year or so I dealt with constant pain and frustration, and the weight crept back on. Finally, in March 2009 I had a hysterectomy and cystectomy and was looking forward to starting over.
Unfortunately, I suffered a head/eye injury in July 2009 and had to wait a couple more months!
But now here I am, ready to go again, excited about the prospect of feeling better, looking better, and helping others along the way!
