I’m a 45 year old married father of 2 girls. I was born and raised in New Hampshire (Live Free or Die). I spent 22 years in the Midwest after graduating from High School. I now divide my professional time between my business as a professional speaker and trainer with a national personal development company, and my BeachBody business.
I was always active as a boy and young man, but rarely participated much in organized sports. Over the course of my adult life my fitness level has moved up and down depending upon the demands of my life and choices I made. I have never been truly overweight, but have often not been as strong and lean as I would have liked to be.
In 1996 I walked the Appalachian Trail from end to end, a six month walk that covered over 2100 miles of trail. After spending over 180 days toting a heavy pack up and down mountain trails 8-12 hours a day, I was pretty lean and strong -- in the legs at least. I took up running and in 2000 completed a marathon. After the marathon I took stock of my body and realized that although I did complete the run, I clearly did not eat properly and looked like it. I then engaged myself in another very popular body transformation program, which yielded great results and I experienced firsthand what immersion in a body transformation can accomplish.
Over the last 8 years my focus on physical training has been uneven, as demands of family life and professional work have distracted me. I now find myself in a very similar physical place to where I was right after the marathon. It is time to start moving forward again and I look forward to seeing what P90X and I can accomplish together.
Like most people, I am starting out with some obstacles in terms of scheduling and equipment. My business requires an irregular schedule, which means that mornings are not always available for workouts. I’m planning my schedule ahead of time to make sure that my workouts are programmed. I am working at getting to be earlier so I can get up early to get the workout completed.
I currently have no pullup bar and no place to really put one. I’m managing with the resistance bands and they are proving adequate.
30 days into my program, I have lost an inch off my waist and gained strength and stamina. I can tell because many things I could not do during the first week, I can do now. Oh, and YOGA! Don’t talk to me about yoga! I have gone from “stiff as a board” to “not very flexible.” I count that as progress. ;-)
Here’s the point. Force X Distance = Work. I’m applying force, and I’m making progress so I’m getting the work done. I’m moving in the direction of my goals, and that means I’m doing GOOD WORK. That fires me up. I’d love to help you do good work too.

******** Finished round 1 of P90X a little over a week ago. I lost 2 inches off my waist, 4 percentage points of body fat (21% -> 17%) and I feel great. I took a weeklong break after finishing and I'm already launched into round 2. My wife likes it. I like it. My kids enjoy watching me huff and puff and I like setting a good example. I'm still learning and that's half the fun.
