The story is simply that I started taking a Turbo Kickboxing class at a local gym and I fell in love. I could go on and on about how I was never really involved in sports (bad knees), how I hated running, how I felt ackward in the gym. During a TKB class I could forget about anything else. I felt in control and powerful, and I got to jam to some awesome music. I loved the feeling of pushing

My weight had been the same since college. I was heavier than I wanted to be, but I was working out a couple times a week in the gym. I hated lifting weights because I felt like I didn't know what I More ...
My weight had been the same since college. I was heavier than I wanted to be, but I was working out a couple times a week in the gym. I hated lifting weights because I felt like I didn't know what I was doing. I would join a group class for an hour and leave. I didn't do anything at home. I especially hated running.

Then I got pregnant. I stopped working out completely (morning sickness) and I gained 40 pounds. After my daughter was born, I suffered mild postpartum depression. I'd had a C-section and my body felt foreign to me. A few months later I was still 15 pounds heavier than pre-baby and I felt like I had no reason to leave the house. After 5 months of this, I joined a gym with a child center so I could bring my daughter with me while I worked out. I started taking TKB three days a week and I dropped 30 pounds, quickly!

Doing Chalene Extreme taught me how building muscle burns fat. I learned how to lift weights and use resistance bands - workouts I could do at home or in the gym. I gained confidence in myself.

Working out gave me a reason to get up in the morning. It made me a better mom to my daughter and a better wife to my husband. It made me so happy to be me. I came out of my funk and started loving life again. Being in the best shape I'd ever been in my life was exciting. I got to buy a pant size I hadn't fit in since middle school!

I love to work out at home and outside now, too. I can run longer distances than I've ever ran, and I can do more push ups than I ever thought possible. And I like it. :) I think it's important for my daughter that she grows up active, and I am proud that she likes to help me exercise. I want other moms who've experienced similar situations to know what it's like to find happiness in life through being active and healthy. Before now, I was never athletic. If I can do it, anyone can.

Also, I just started INSANITY. True to it's name, the workout is INSANE, but I love it! It's 40 minutes I give to myself 6 days a week to drown out everything else and work out. I'm excited to see where 60 days of Insanity is going to take me!
