This divesting and often disabling disease which attaches the central nervous system left me questioning my future. The fear I experienced was breathtaking, felt I was losing control of my life, the goals, the dreams I had were quickly fading. I began to write, searching for answers. My journey opened a new way of life for me, a new way to look at the future. I began a fierce determination to beat this disease, to live my dreams and be impactful in the future for others. I realized this journey was going to be life changing. However never was forced to look at my life internally from my soul. Always felt I had another day, another week or another year to find the answers to live my dreams and build my future. This journey allowed me to find myself. Has allowed me to look holistically at my mental health as well as my physically health, encompassing my exercise program, diet and taking control of my life. I wanted to share this journey with others, I want to change the perception of what MS is, what it looks like and what WE can do and what WE can be!! Together we can fight a bigger battle please join me in my fight against this devastating disease as well as other life experiences and challenges. My most important job is being a single mother to a incredibly beauty 18 yr daughter that is my partner in our family owned business, located in Jamestown IN, breeding, training and showing Paint/Pinto Horses. Each horse is treated with respect and dignity never forced into maturing before the ability and growth allows. Therefore each horse is looked at as an individual....Our farm is called Paint By Design Farm. I have been at the same place of employment for the past 17+ years. I am the Behavioral Health Risk Manager @ Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis. I have a BS in nursing as well as a Forensics degree now working on the legal end of health care, striving to improve the quality of care and work environment for all by identifying potential risk and implementing a performance plan. I recently published a book of Poetry called Finding Me in This Castle Built for Me. It is a collection of heartfelt visions, life experience and lessons. It is part poetic journey and part self-help for those seeking answers to life’s questions. I hope to capture readers looking for life's answers to those so often asked questions. However not by giving them the answers, cause each person needs to find their own answers, travel their road and take their own journey, I hope this book of poems helps them find the path meant for them, to be used as a tool, a self help book to find the peace so many look for and struggle along their way. The hope to be impactful to anyone that has struggles in their journey, or knows someone that has struggled. Young teens/adults that have suffered abuse, trauma or major illness or loss by this allowing them an avenue to work through their questions. Portion of the proceeds to this book are donated to the National MS Foundation in effort to help find a cure. Together we can fight a bigger battle. This journey allowed me to look holistically at my health, encompassing my exercise program, diet and taking control of my life. Prior to my diagnosis with MS, I was diagnosis with Degenerative Disc Disease, from a near fatal car accident at the age of 17. Leaving me with chronic lower back pain, months and periods of time of struggles to be physical. I sought out many treatments, physical therapy, injections, medications etc, with little to no relief. I began riding Horses, utilizing and stretching my lower back seem to be the most impactful. I had always been an athlete therefore loosing my physical ability was difficult to deal with. However not truly until the diagnosis of MS did it really hit me, the health, my ability that I knew, I didn't' truly respect it as a gift, it wasn't something just owed to me. Therefore this newer diagnosis, this new challenge made me really look deep at what more I could be doing “Holistically” to improve the quality of my life, focus on the symptoms I suffered daily and try to effect change. With a more holistic approach with a few diet changes, core muscle and fitness training, reducing my fat intake, increase my protein and lean meats, careful review of my Vit’s and increase my fluid intake with water and eliminate soda, allowing me to holistically impact my physical and mental health. I suffered chronic fatigue, joint and muscle pain, difficulty with concentration and at times cognitive issue which made spelling and sentence construction often difficult, loss of taste, loss and vision filed interpretation due to a 6th nerve palsy as a result of optic never damage from my original onset of MS. I didn't’ approach my physical and mental health holistically, as something that would impact my symptoms, putting all the pieces together like a puzzle creating the best plan for me. What could I change? Did my diet really have an impact? Did I need to add things and eliminate things to my diet? Holistically could I look at things differently? Started to really look into possible diet changes, fitness changes, joined a fitness center and started to really feel empowered. I began to concentrate more on my diet with proteins and lean meats. I had chronic low B12 related to the MS. People started to notice a difference in my physical and mental appearance, others started asking me about my fitness program, my diet, my illness. "People I knew with MS, started to see a new way to live!" This holistic program of encompassing diet, exercise has impacted my staying power, lessened my fatigue and improved my cognitive functional level, sleep disturbance, as well as decrease my muscle and joint pain. Now I feel empower to help others that suffer chronic illness. So, Now I challenged everyone to help me in this Call to Change the faces of MS....It does not have to be a life once lived, dreams faded, and days of just memories of what could ......it can be, dreams, goals, and a life of living, dreams made come true, making memories and living beyond your potential!!
