It's hard to find motivation for staying fit after you've been a competitive athlete. That's where I found myself after playing basketball competitively in college, and as a professional in Europe. I've never strayed too far in terms of being in shape, but I had definitely reached a plateau with my fitness, and my workouts had become monotonous and boring.

I've never strayed too far in terms of being in shape, but I had definitely reached a plateau with my fitness, and my workouts had become monotonous and boring.
When I found out about P90X from a high school friend who had gone through an amazing transformation my curiousity was totally piqued. I started doing my research on the program and got very excited. First, it made sense. Second, it promised results after hard work, not some magic contraption. Third, it was simple...even though extremely challenging.
For someone used to team sports growing up, the best part might have been finding a group of folks all working towards a common goal again - being healthy and fit. Of course, once you start seeing results, the competitive part of you wants to keep pushing and find out what you're made of. I'm a practicing attorney, and I definitely believe that the discipline I use with my fitness translates to the discipline I have to use for my work, and even my financial fitness. I guess you could say it's a win, win, win situation!

Round 1 of P90X was definitely awesome. I completed it with the help of friends and family who were also doing their first round of the program too. The other folks keeping me accountable was huge, because work stress got bigger and bigger as I went into my last phase of P90X.
So how/what was my transformation? It was both mental and physical. Mentally, I got out of a rut that I had been in with my working out and lack of fitness goals. I had something to work towards and accomplish again! Physically, the pictures didn't lie, but neither did the results I got when I was doing what I love to do most - play basketball. I found myself playing with, keeping up with, and beating guys 10-15 years younger than me. It was awesome to feel that athletically young again, where I could ask my body to do something, and it was ready to perform. At that point, I knew I'd continue to do this program for a long time.
The other really cool thing was when friends and family started noticing the physical changes and asking what in the world I was doing. Once I told them about how great I was feeling and what they could expect from the program, they were totally on board. I realized that many adults are out there looking for effective, simple ways they can feel good about themselves physically and mentally apart from their professional and family lives. The Beachbody programs are an awesome way to join a community of folks striving for self improvement physically...and it's so gratifying to see the rewards for yourself AND others!
At the end of the day, it thrills me to see not only my results, but the results of others I've helped to help themselves.
