Like many women, when I was school aged, I was very active and ate whatever was in front of me without consequence. As I got older and work and school took the majority of my time, I found myself further and further away from the athletic body I'd known.

Most of us have a trigger: a number on the scale, a size in jeans, or an image in the mirror that is our personal limit. My limit came when someone gave me a photo frame with a picture of me in it as a gift. When I first saw the picture, I thought it was someone else. I thought it was an old picture of a woman I know that is morbidly obese. When at a second glance I realized that it was me in the photo...I can't begin to tell you how I felt. It was the most horrible sinking feeling.

It might seem vain compared to some people, whose trigger is more serious like a diagnosis of high blood pressure or diabetes, but it was all the motivation I needed.

I began a path back towards the me I once knew. I wasn't going to try to fit in to a certain size jeans or become obsessed with a number on the scale (although I still fight this challenge,) I wanted to find my way back to a lifestyle I once lived.
