Welcome to Team Beachbody!! My name is Mike Baird (imderekpoe) and I’m happy to be a Team Beachbody Coach!

I’m a 49 year-old man, married with two grown daughters. I work in the IT department for a company in Columbus, Ohio. I also go to school – finally finishing up my bachelor’s degree after about 30 years!

I’ve been doing the Beachbody thing since November 2007 and I can honestly say

Like so most of us I’ve gone through most of my adult life putting on a couple pounds a year, doing little or no exercise, and ending up with a body that nobody would be proud of. At 6’ 230 I knew that I was overweight, but never really thought of myself as being ‘fat’. I had done the BMI calculations that put me in the ‘obese’ category, but hey – what do they know!

As my daughter’s wedding approached last year, I knew that I really needed to do something. My wife and I started a diet program and managed to learn to eat better foods and smaller portions. The good news was that I lost about 50 pounds. The bad news was that I still had no muscle to speak of and had a big roll of fat around my waist.

One day I was flipping through the channels and happened upon the P90X infomercial. I’m not sure why that one caught my eye more than any of the others, but I thought – why not give it a try? I found out that a guy at the office was also doing it, and when I asked him about it he had nothing but great things to say. So with that, I took the plunge and dove into the ‘X’ full bore.

I’ll be honest – I probably wasn’t ready for P90X. My buddy kept trying to tell me that maybe I should start with one of the others first and work my way up to it. Of course I didn’t listen and at first I really paid the price. The first day I was literally crawling to the workout sheet to record my results! After the second day I couldn’t straighten my arms out! But I pushed through the pain and started feeling better and better after each workout. Eventually I got to the point where I felt like I had to workout each day, or I felt like I was missing something. Even better, I was seeing some results. There was some actual muscle!

Unfortunately due to an unrelated injury I had to cut the program short about halfway through. I tried to work through it, but I have a hard time backing off just a little bit and probably made things worse. So I ended up taking a break that was rehabilitation break that was extended by a vacation, and further extended by getting lazy! I noticed that I was feeling lethargic again and worse yet, that my new slimmer pants were getting a little tighter.

So now I’m back at it again, doing the P90X and supplementing with 10-Minute Trainer on those days when I can’t fit in a whole workout. I follow the fitness guides to make sure that I’m getting everything I need to support my body. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to eat properly when doing any kind of fitness program! I’m happy to report that I’m back to feeling the ‘need’ to do something every day to help get my body into shape. As you can see, there’s still plenty of work to be done, so I’m just beginning the P90X journey again and will keep this updated with my results and get some new photos up soon!
