My name is Jackie and I am a 33 year old nurse (almost nurse practitioner in
May 08). I have one son who is seven years old. He is fabulously hilarious
and my one true joy. He is also autistic, but that is the least important thing
about him.

There are so many good reasons to get healthy and absolutely not one good
reason to not. I suppose the bottom line is I am sick and tired of being sick
and tired. Having a mom with no energy and who does not want to put on a
bathing suit or shorts is no fun for a 7 year old who loves the water and being
outside. It saddens me everytime I send him to the pool with someone else
because I don't want to embarass him. The face is see in pictures of myself
saddens me as well. There is no smile, just the uncomfortable stare of
someone who does not want her picture taken. Enough is Enough!!!

I see daily how difficult health care becomes for people who are overweight.
Working at a level one trauma center I see the most critically injured patients
in my area. I see plenty of people who do not fit into the ct-scanner or MRI
because they are too big. I see people who don't fit into the standard beds
because of their girth. And then there are those whose surgical problems
arise from being overweight. It is sad to see the realization on the face of
someone when you discuss that weight is a big contributing factor to the
current problem. I would love to be an example and maybe an inspiration for
them, not a hypocrite.

I am looking forward to taking my time, and getting it right. Will I be fabulous
by my 34th birthday(March)? No, but I will be on my way. Watch out 35!!!
